Great work life balance frustrating HR
Senior Finance Specialist (Current Employee) –  Boston, MAJanuary 29, 2017
Partners has great benefits. It is easy to create a good work life balance. Career advancement is very difficult. Working in research operations has great security, but there is little opportunity to move into other areas of the organization. Pay scale often feels stagnant. Significant increases only come with promotions which do not happen quickly. Career advancement can halt after a few years. There are few management opportunities. Moving to new positions in other departments outside of research is very difficult. I was able to complete grad school while working. The flexibility is great benefit.
Pros
Work life balance, good benefits
Cons
Little advancement opportunities, frustrating HR

Great Place
Security Analyst - Epic (Former Employee) –  Boston, MAFebruary 1, 2017
Great place to learn and become exposed to complex and interesting cases. Opportunities to have patient contact as a non-clinician and to shadow physicians. Research coordinators have a lot of independence and amazing options to learn from some of the worlds best doctors and nurses.
Cons
Departments are very independent from each other and don't always communicate well--creating challenges for multi-disciplinary protocols and cases. There is not a set pathway to advance from a research coordinator to a research manager--creating career growth stagnation and frustration.
Advice to Management
Provide mid level opportunities for research coordinators that want to stay in research (instead of transitioning to medical/nursing school)

Not a pleasant work environment
Anonymous Employee Leaving Partners. (Current Employee) –  Somerville, MASeptember 12, 2016
The workplace culture is horrible. It is not what it used to be. Employee satisfaction results have shown that the employees are miserable here and it is only getting worse. Partners is in the bottom 25th percentile in employee satisfaction, nationally. If you are looking for a healthy workplace culture, this is not the place for you. Hospital politics make it difficult to enjoy being at work. Nothing gets done around here because there are too many decision makers that cannot agree with each other so a lot of your hard work gets thrown out the window. Also be prepared to get thrown under the bus. Employees live in fear that they will lose their jobs because management makes them feel this way. The biggest complaint from employees here is the pay. Salaries are below market. They have not been adjusted in nearly a decade. Also, promotions are not given based on hard work. Promotions are given only after someone leaves. In other cases, they'll "promote" you by changing your title but with no pay raise. This is a tactic they use to retain their employees but they are full of empty promises. Truth is, they don't have the budget for anything and won't for the next several years so don't expect much.
Pros
Modern office space
Cons
Politics, Poor management, No pay raises, Stressful

Great Company to work for
Registered Respiratory Practitioner (Former Employee) –  Boston, MAAugust 18, 2016
Great benefits, hands on training, very competitive pay rates and the people are just great! The corporate culture is relaxed while there is a major feeling of being a part of a team. The company mission statement is clear and it seems that all employees really are there to help people find jobs in their own way. Expectations and goals are high but the support is present to help all employees achieve set goals. Management wants to help their teams succeed.

Newly Built facility
Third Party Reviewer (Current Employee) –  Somerville, MANovember 7, 2016
A day at work is normally a busy and fast paced day, and always work to be done. I've learned many skills and how to handle hospital billing accounts and insurances. My managers and supervisors can differ and help out a bit more in helping you understand the workflow. Co-workers are very kind helpful, respectful, and strong team players. Hardest part of the job is having multiple changes in a short period of time. Most enjoyable part is I'm kept busy which makes time go by fast.

Customer- Focused Desktop Support.
Desktop Support Technician (Current Employee) –  Boston, MAApril 11, 2016
A typical day at work was to make sure the nurses and doctors were able to log on and utilize all of the supported equipment provided to them. Allowing them to do their Job more efficiently. The hospital is a great place create a foundation for a career in IT. With its fast pace, vast amounts of technology and new faces. I've learned to communicate and network more effectively as well as sharpening my time -management and multitasking skills all while keeping up with any new patient care technology. On the maturing side I've learned to serve others in an environment where that is sometimes taken for granted. My coworkers were the best. They know how to prioritize, communicate and love to learn new things passing it on with the rest of the department.

Management needs to be checked and more clear on giving out contracts to ex employers instead should look for the best of the companies interest.
Easy timings, learned new technologies, management was good, co-workers were friendly.
Hardest part was the micro time management
Flexible work from home opportunities.
Pros
Good potential to grow and job stability. Opportunity to implement new technologies, harvard affiliation
Cons
mistakes, unplanned, prejudice, not appreciative

Registered Nurse (Former Employee) –  Salem, MA 01970July 21, 2016
Pros
The work environment is generally positive and there's an atmosphere of care and commitment to promoting good outcomes for patients.
NSMC's outlook moving forward appears quite stable as a member of Partners Healthcare.
Cons
NSMC sites and department locations are disperse and this can result in feeling fragmented.
Advice to Management
Consultation and collaboration between direct service providers and senior management fosters a more positive work culture and should be expanded.

Great place to work
Project Specialist (Current Employee) –  Boston, MAJuly 19, 2016
I work for (am paid by) Partners, but actual work for their partner, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. It is a special arrangement. I am given many opportunities to continue to grow in my career.

The work is never dull, I have learned a great deal about working with executives. I have steadily improved my MS Project skills. If I want to learn something or strengthen a skill, my manager enables me to be the best I can be.
Pros
Great manager
Cons
Cost of commuting to Boston

Worked with RNs and Physicians to improve and fix POE application. Management was great to work with because they tend to care what their employees are learning and doing. Partners breeds a team environment. The hardest part of the job was being on call, as I would be woken up in the middle of the night, several times.

Working in the hospital you need a lot of patience to deal with rushing Doctors,Nurses, and patients wanting coffee or something quick to snack on.In this type on environment you need to learn how to deal with people and their different characteristics. This type of job is all about team work and working together to have the lines moving at a nice pace. The most enjoyable part of the day is meeting new faces and learning from others.
