Peak 10 provides data center management, Web hosting, and other services from nearly 20 data centers located in Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, and Virginia. The company offers shared and dedicated Web site hosting, as well as server colocation and dedicated Internet access. It also monitors network functions, provides managed security, disaster recovery, and data backup services. Peak 10 targets such industries as communications, manufacturing, and financial services. Clients have included the Jacksonville Jaguars and Pergo. The company was co-founded in 2000 by CEO David Jones. Private equity investor Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe bought a controlling stake in Peak 10 in 2010.
Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe paid about $400 million to a group of investors including former majority owner Seaport Capital, a New York-based private equity fund, and Omaha-based private equity firm McCarthy Capital. McCarthy Capital bought its stake in Peak 10 from Frontier Capital in 2009.
Peak 10's expansion efforts have included the addition of data centers in Tampa Bay, Florida; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Charlotte, North Carolina in 2009. Also that year the company bought Fort Lauderdale data services provider 1Vault in a move to expand its Florida operations. Peak 10 invested in improvements to 1Vault's infrastructure and renamed the business Peak 10 South Florida.
The company opened new facilities in Ohio, Tennessee, and North Carolina to meet demand in those areas in 2008. – less
