Pacific Historic Parks (PHP) has established the Pearl Harbor Memorial Fund (PHMF) to raise $58 million in capital improvement funds from public and private sources. The funds will construct a new facility that will replace the USS Arizona Memorial's current deteriorating and inadequate Museum and Visitor Center at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Since it's – more... dedication in 1980 as the shoreside support facility to the USS Arizona Memorial, the USS Arizona Memorial Museum and Visitor Center has experienced tremendous usage and high demand. Larger than expected visitation, structural deterioration due to water intrusion, inadequate climatic controls for museum artifacts, and insufficient educational and curatorial space all contribute to the need to replace and expand the current museum and visitor center.
The project began in 2000 as the Arizona Memorial Fund. When the project expanded from an $8 million renovation to a $27 million construction program (plus $3 million or more for endowment), the campaign was reorganized under the Pearl Harbor Memorial Fund name, as a program of PHP in partnership with the National Park Service. The PHMF Campaign is a multi-faceted campaign directed by the PHP Board of Directors. the PHMF Board of Directors, and a team of development professionals and consultants.
