Extremely fast-paced and confusing work environment
Management Trainee (Former Employee) –  Wilkes-Barre, PAJanuary 27, 2016
If you are not on your A-game from the second you clock in until the second you clock out and are off the property, you are going to want to look for a job somewhere else.

You will be expected to juggle about a dozen different tasks while assisting customers and finding trucks for reservations. Once you feel as if you have your day together, management will throw out some random meaningless task, but make it seem like the life of the company depends on it. After this, your day will go down the drain and everyone will try to pass the blame onto someone else as to whose fault it is.

Upper management will act like they want to see you succeed, then berate you if you need to ask them for help with anything.

It is a "only the strong survive" environment, but unfortunately for Penske, there are a lot of jobs that are MUCH easier and pay WAY more, which is why they have such a high turnover rate.

If you are having a hard time finding that first job out of college, then take a stab at Penske and use it as a resume builder. Give it 6 months to a year if possible, and you will realize what I am trying to put across in this review.

If you aren't hurting for work, though, pass this one over, because seriously, PENSKE SUCKS.
Pros
A lot of free lunches, especially when you first start.
Cons
Chaotic, confusing, no responsibility or accountability for anything.

Branch Rental Manager (Current Employee) –  Chicago, ILJanuary 27, 2016
Good place to start your career as an entry level professional out of college. Good opportunity for advancement, secure, and good benefits. Sometimes long hours/weekends, but that's to be expected. Good culture.

One of the best warehouses in Georgia.
Picker/Forklift Operator (Former Employee) –  Duluth, GAJanuary 25, 2016
The best thing about Penske Logistics is that there is one shift. The employees who are hired are the employees who work that warehouse. Once the job is done, the job is done! No matter if its 5 o'clock in the afternoon or 12 noon. You work 5 days a week but will manage to get 40 hours or more every week. I enjoyed the people and the work environment.
Pros
Work was not hard
Cons
Worked in a refrigerated area

Releave an employee for the day. Check all rental orders. Assure all trucks are up to regulation and clean. Hardest part of the work day is staying busy with little to no work. Enjoyable part of the day are the people I work with.

Think twice
warehouse (Former Employee) –  Batavia ilJanuary 12, 2016
The BATAVIA location is the worst this place should not be called PESNKE or ACCURIDE . It should be called Kim Co & friends . This place doesn't care about employees they get yelled at fired so there family and friends can work there . And fire good hard working people just to hire there buddies. And the hours are crazy. If you complain about there team lead forget it you better start looking for another job because in no time you won't have a job .
Cons
Worst place

Company thrives on being efficient and cost effective. This is how they make their money. Most people have longevity at Penske as long as they apply themselves and give 100%.

Great company. VERY poor local management
Diesel Technician (Current Employee) –  Salt Lake City, UTDecember 22, 2015
I worked at various different locations and loved the company as a whole.. But I had very bad experiences with local management.

They had way more chieftains than indians. on a good day there would be 3-4 techs with 5-6 managers watching everything you do and micromanaging everything that happens There is exceptions to this but they are very few and far between.

Great job for training from nothing to something, high turnover rate due to " out of touch " management.
Tech I (Former Employee) –  Oklahoma CityDecember 17, 2015
Started as tech 3 changing oil and inspections, with no formal training or experience. Great opportunity for someone starting out. Learned a lot from the guys that are at the end of their careers.
The bad....Management is out of touch with employees, impossible goals for management in no win situations. You will be told that you are doing it wrong every half hour and on the hour.REMEMBER, you are just a number here. Shops here in this district are ran by kids with no experience other than YouTube videos and some buddy of theirs that have done it. Throw a Chevy 350 to rebuild in front of them and they wouldn't know where to start.

Pay was great for starting out, as you gain experience the pay scale is too close and their all star employees that outshine others will make $1-2 dollars more than they guy who has no tools, ask questions then argue with you, don't show up on time, and is the best that ever was at 20.

Get ready for tool sharing program, 3/4 of shop does not have adequate tools to perform jobs. As they do provide heavy shop tools, hard to get tools repaired or replaced due to shop budgets.

Management is reactive, not proactive. Culture changed significantly to something more militaristic and hardline. Their motivation is threatening possible job lay offs in a safety meeting to get people to change bad work habits that are not being properly addressed on an individual basis. If you want to move up quick this is the place for you due to high turnover and next warm body up. If you are good at something they will exploit and use you, disregarding
  more... fairness.

Shift schedules leave a lot to be desired, days will work weekends and splits days off, nights will work a weekend and two days off in a row. Not a family orientated work place.

Now the good, training classes were fantastic, constant OEM training. You will find great experienced guys that will take certain kids under their wing to train, but this type is getting rare. Nice recently built shop. Pay was good for entry level. great friendships. Job experiences to take with you in future career changes. You will find that making as many connections to vendors and customers will assist you on your path.
