We’re pet fanatics. We’ll adopt the older dog with hip issues and we always have room for one more cat. Our trunks are filled with leashes, tennis balls and doggie water bottles. We’re a little bit crazy about our pets, and our passion for them is the catalyst for our success, from our strong growth and national industry awards to our five straight years (200_ - 2014) of being a Top Bay Area Workplace.
Our strategy is simple: if we wouldn't give a product to our own pets, we won't sell it to our customers. We ban products with unnamed animal by-products and other suspect ingredients and test all our chewable products for lead, making sure they exceed the safety standards for children's toys. We trust and empower our people to do the right thing every day and value service to others above all else.
Since we don't have investors, we're able to put more focus, energy and resources into community involvement than any reasonable business person would consider sane. Our My Mutt program has raised over a million dollars for animal rescues and shelters. We feed over 40,000 homeless animals every year, including 11,000 homeless pets at San Francisco Animal Care and Control. We help to provide bullet-proof vests to ever Northern California K-9 that needs one. Caring about pets is not an afterthought or a gimmick; it's at the heart of who we are as a company. – less
