Pros: decent pay, good coworkers
Cons: Management, inconsistent hours
Being honest, this is an average job. The work itself is equally challenging and easy depending on what you are assigned for the day. Be prepared to clean up poo, wee, haul 50+lb dog food, and a few repetitive tasks because that's the reality of working at a pet store, it isn't always pretty.
Petco is a retail company so be prepared for retail customers. They are not always friendly and sometimes you feel like they pick every little detail to complain about but then you have your regulars. Just like the work load, this aspect of the job goes both ways. If you like animals and you can handle the pressure of working in retail then you will be fine at this store.
This location goes through employees fairly quickly and it isn't hard to get a job there. Could DEFINITELY use some manager training to say the least. The hardest part of the job was the head management but that comes with any part time retail job.
If you stay later than your shift end then you will have to take a long lunch the next day to make up for it.
My main advice: you might feel overwhelmed by the amount you have to learn in the beginning but it will come with time. You learn where things are and you learn which products work for what. Don't be afraid to listen in on conversations others are having about products in order to learn, there is almost always another associate to help if you cant answer customer questions.
