long hours and don't care
Group Leader (Former Employee) –  PGTJanuary 17, 2017
Claim to be a family caring company but in truth they do not give a dam as long as they are getting the numbers and only care about share holders.Leaders are back stabbers. Long hours and total lack of safety. Many injuries because of this. Looking for a good job? look elsewhere.
Pros
good benefits
Cons
No concern for safety as long as the job is done

Terrible leadership and lies about job advancement and how much you actually get paid.
Leaders were very lazy and tried their hardest to do as little work or give little help to you as possible.
On the other hand the benifits were very good with dental and health plans but i guess thats why they could pay so little.
Pros
benifits very long 12 hours if you like that
Cons
bad leaders, lies alot anout things, environment was super depressing

If you value Family and quality of life outside the workplace,DO NOT WORK HERE.
A drone in PGT (Current Employee) –  Nokomis, FLJune 22, 2016
PGT ,a few years ago looked as a possible place to finish out my career till retirement. The company seemed to care about it's employees and so did most of the non-salaried leadership. The environment was fun and fast paced.Challenging your teammates to perform at their best Overtime is mandatory, period. If you call out of work you will be ostracised and your continued absenses will cause you to not be able to advance in wages.Forcing you to choose to kiss the behind of some team leader or group leader to advance.Much of the equipment is sub standard and very old.Managers always are counting the numbers produced and your schedule will be effected by those numbers.Constant double talk from mgmt. always leaves your ability to plan and focus on the day's work difficult. There is no notice of having to work the next day,or on scheduled days off with only a hour or so's notice. This Independence Day we will be off work on Monday, but will have to work Saturday as a regular day.Sunday is inventory. If you want a 40 hr. a week job do not apply here.If you want a 60+ hr. a week job this is it.
Pros
Work indoors.
Cons
Co. processes which limit success.Poor management.

Manufacturer/Technician (Former Employee) –  Venice, FLApril 5, 2016
A typical day at work was always keeping busy, multitasking, and exceeding my bosses expectation.

I have learned how to build windows and doors. I have also learn different types of glass thats installed on doors and windows.

The management in PGT was moderate.

At PGT my fellow co-workers was a blast to work with. Most of everyone worked together as a team.

The hardest part of the job i would have to say was working 12 hours a day 6 days a week.

The most enjoyable part of the job was knowing i did my best and knowing people houses are hurricane safe.

Meh
Tech 1-Tech 3 (Former Employee) –  North Venice, FLMarch 18, 2016
PGT Used to be a great company, somewhere along the lines the wrong people got into the wrong positions. Now the company is all about who you know and who can you make friends with to advance. If you make someone angry it becomes a personal vendetta to fire you, for anything. the overall "idea" that is presented as there culture/environment is great, its just not actually adhered to by management in most cases.

Good pay/benefits, a lot of Overtime
Inventory Management (Former Employee) –  Nokomis, FL 34275March 14, 2016
Before you start this job, you have to sign a waiver to work mandatory overtime. Also, too many chiefs, not enough indians. There are three levels of managers on the floor at all times, as well as quality engineers, inventory managers, and other positions above you. They will ALL ask you to do certain things that will almost ALWAYS conflict with what the other guy wants you to do.

Other than that, the benefits are amazing, and the pay starts better than most and gets better with time.

Productive, and growing manufacturing plant with great benefits, clinic, gym, and cafe!
Glass Technician (Current Employee) –  Nokomis, FLFebruary 23, 2016
Well, started working for PGT Industries main plant in May of 2013, a typical workday, for me anyway usually consists of being placed at a position on the manufacturing line by a leader then I am expected to carry out the duties of that job efficiently. My line is very fast paced, so the requirements are to focus on moving as quickly as possible while being able to maintain cleanliness and care to the product. Quality, quality, quality, Always remember these two things: "Two Minutes a window!" and to watch the quality of the product or job station. If nothing else please lead by example with those tips. The most enjoyable part of the job for me is learning new things, and machines or "josephs", its never a dull moment when it comes to learning with this growing company, ever.
Pros
On Site: Gym, Cafe, Clinic. This job provides great benefits for those in need of such! Amazng HR staff, almost will bend over backwards for employee's, CEO's are all up-beat & make sure company is running smoothly as possible and always helping, walking around very detail oriented
Cons
Short breaks throughout day, hard to balance work, everyday life, sleep, leadership (most) of individual lines are not savy enough to carry out daily goals, alot of "know it all" people, not enough training for new employee's.

PGT industries are so strict with the job schedule. they give you passes and PTO but we need be careful with how to use cause if you use everything you loose the job. the environment is cool, people are nice, management are friendly. The whole building is air conditioned. You can make money but you need to work hard.
Pros
Hall meetings, barbecues unexpected, best insurance.
Cons
expensive insurance, long hours to work, usually more than 8 or 10

TECHNICIAN (Former Employee) –  Nokomis FlJuly 15, 2015
Overall ok place to work plenty of opportunity for advancement but you gave to want it. I advanced to level 3 in 6 months could have been faster but the management dragged there heals.

Tough to get things changed when you know they can be better. They dont have written documentation of processes so its "tribal knowledge"
