Loan Counselor (Former Employee) –  Mechanicsburg, PADecember 5, 2016
I strive to do the best job every day and continue to grow and learn with each position. I had the unfortunate experience to work in an environment that did not care about their employees well being. I was a voice on the phone, not a person.

Average tenure is <90 days. Can't get the same answer from any 2 leads on too many subjects. Costing borrowers thousands.
Pros
Decent pay. Most of employees are pretty good folks m
Cons
Management is deaf to input from Customer Service Reps.

While PHEAA seems to have potential to make a career, it actually does not. This is great for you if you have no social life, mandatory 10 hours or more is implemented almost all year round, so you're working a minimum of 50hrs a week. You will be extremely micromanaged. There is no compassion for the employees what so ever. In their eyes, you are a number.

Always on your toes adapting to change with some enjoyable and greative events
Loan Counselor (Current Employee) –  machanichsburgSeptember 28, 2016
I would describe PHEAA like a jungle swinging from task to task adapting to different instructions. Some creative leisure time is included They are attempted in being like family. As in all situations there are some pros and cons but I believe it is up to yourself to get through the good and the unexpected.
Pros
There is plenty of job opportunity.
Cons
Jobs are given to the chosen ones

Loan Counselor (Former Employee) –  Mechanicsburg, PASeptember 19, 2016
This was an awful place to work. The trainers barely know the job themselves. I remember them reading us the answers to the quizes before giving us the quiz. The are just a machine. Pheaa wants a warm body in a seat. People make stuff up as they go along and put borrowers at risk because the company is so incompetent. They are so far behind in processing of IBR's that people are having their credit ruined. They are even at times in jeopardy of losing their contracts with the DOE because it is so awful and inaccurate. Apparently, the Harrisburg office is much better to work for than the Mechanicsburg office. My supervisor left my personnel file open on her desk and she was in the break room all evening. The supervisors want absolutely nothing to do with their employees or the customers. Another supervisor used to sit at his desk and watch basketball games on his computer. The real problem at that Mechanicsburg office is their directors. They collect their benefits and blame everything on everyone else. If you complain or make a suggestion for improvement, you will get fired. Also, all their clocks are on different times, so they can use that as justification for writing you up to fire you. They provide no feedback for helping you and its just a horrible place to be. You get paid so little is not even a liveable wage. They don't tell you anything in the interview process and they basically lie to put you in a position to set you up to fail. The environment is all drama, all the time.
Pros
Close to my home
Cons
They set you up to fail

Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) –  Harrisburg, PASeptember 12, 2016
This job, although I did enjoy was very busy and time consuming having to deal with lots of paperwork and sometimes having to give people the bad news that they did not get approved for student loans is never a nice thing to do. But over all a nice place to work.
Pros
Working with people
Cons
lots and lots of paperwork

I enjoyed my fellow associates, as well as the job, you are constantly learning. Management could have some upgrades however, they seem not to care about issues brought forth and ultimately lead to my leaving the job.

Bad Management
Analysis and Forecasting Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Harrisburg, PAAugust 11, 2016
Management is largely unreliable and incompetent. The organization is painfully inefficient, and leaders have no desire to improve on the inefficiencies; most don't haver the skill set to successfully implement change if they desired.
Pros
Good Work Life Balance
Cons
Poor Pay, Poor culture, limited advancement opportunities

Loan Counselor (Current Employee) –  Mechanicsburg, PAJuly 20, 2016
PHEAA is a good company. The management team works well with their respective teams and the computer systems are easy to understand and use. The job itself is easy. Working with student borrower can be challenging as some of them aren't always kind and many others don't outright ask or say what they need. But the people who are grateful for the help they receive make it worth while.
Pros
Steady work hours, overtime, active and friendly team competitions.
Cons
Short breaks, technical difficulties

Stable company with advancement opportunities
Business Analyst (Current Employee) –  Harrisburg, PAJune 2, 2016
There is a definite sense of professionalism and pride in the work that people do there. Behind the call center is a top notch level of intelligent, hard working individuals that any business would be proud to have. Because it is a quasi state position, the pay could be better, or even potential bonuses might help stimulate certain parties. There is a relaxed atmosphere with the ideal that people are respected and expected to turn out good work.

Loan Counselor (Former Employee) –  Harrisburg, PAMay 29, 2016
Huge corporation. Mandatory overtime that is not communicated in the interview process. Lender policy dictates job opportunities. The hardest part of the job is adhering to ever changing policies from Lenders. Management looks out for themselves and abuses the union members by not adhering to the benefits provided to the employees in the union.
Pros
Overtime is provided
Cons
Short breaks, mandatory overtime and disregard for union membership benefits

Loved working for the company, learnerd many skills, the workplace was an awesome enviroment.
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) –  Mechanicsburg, PAMay 9, 2016
A typical work would be answering calls to help borrower efficiently and easily manage their federal student loans. Keep up to date with constant change of the business. Process, copy, fax paper work. I learn how to better manage time and multi-task. I learn how to easily de-esculate elevated situations. Improved listening skills as well as clerical skills. The hardest part of the job was fixing other employees mistakes. The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to help the next person resolve there financial issues with long term solutions.
Pros
Customer Satisfaction
Cons
Unsatisfied customers

Working with borrowers to resolve their loan issues. Setting up payment plans. Assisting with loan consolidations. Skip tracing and collection of past due accounts. Also took escalated calls from angry borrowers.
