Environment at Philips was very edgy. Everyone complained on a daily basis about disliking coming to work.
Painter Helper/ Parts puller (Former Employee) –  Littlestown paAugust 28, 2017
I enjoyed the people I worked with, they were like family to me. It's a shame management didn't care more about their employees. Had they of cared more, the employees would have stayed longer.
Pros
Occasional cook out or ice cream day.
Cons
Not enough credit or praise given to those who deserved it.

If your looking to excel in a company, this is not the one.
Shipping Associate/Forklift Operator (Current Employee) –  Dallas, TXAugust 23, 2017
At first the company was alright, the hours were cool and the work load was evenly distributed. The classes and training they offer is very valuable.Once the company hit a slow point in sales, they started laying people off then the work loads increased but the pay did not. I was expected to take on Lead/Supervisor responsibilities with the promise of a pay increase only to be told for two years that they are still working on it.... Dealing with the Management is not worth the headache, but the people you work with are wonderful.

"Non-team" work environment; CYA
Sales (Former Employee) –  NationalAugust 2, 2017
Since separating from Philips healthcare, leadership is under pressure to perform. You are either on the "market" side or the "business" side and these sides are often not aligned. End user sales is still new to the lighting industry and no lighting company, including Philips is close to being good at it. Technology is becoming more "systems oriented" and none of the sales leaders and the company in general understands the customer(end user) and the sell cycle since the customer has always been the distributor and the sell cycle was the life of the lamp (bulb). LED's have really changed the market. The smaller lighting companies are hiring end user/systems oriented leaders that know how to sell vs those that have never sold a "system" solution with services. Since the current management is under a microscope, they will do whatever is necessary to save their own career.
Pros
Really great product and service offerings.
Cons
Hiring people from the outside, to bring in new prospective and experience but unwilling to change their ways, which is a missed opportunity for Philips

Used to be good, slipping fast
Manager (Current Employee) –  Somerset, NJJuly 24, 2017
Philips Lighting used to be a great place to work, but it's quickly succumbing to the pressures of becoming less and less relevant, and it's making this be felt on their employees. Management is safe and they do what they want, but the people who actually do all the work are constantly under the gun to work faster, harder or be terminated, even if their position have nothing to do with sales. They hire from the outside, and don't give many chances for people to be promoted from within, and when they do, it's not an open and honest process.
Pros
Compensation is on par with other large companies
Cons
They say there's good work/life balance, but in reality there isn't

Agent Project Manager (Current Employee) –  Somerset, NJJune 24, 2017
Something is always changing at Philips so you need to be able to adjust quickly and learn new things as needed. Largely a great group of people to work with. Most of management is great with only a few bad eggs. Benefits are good. Health insurance is better than some other places, but still leaves room for improvement. Company match 401K, health, dental, vision, and stock program.

Data Analysis Platform Development Intern (Current Employee) –  Boston, MAJune 17, 2017
Highly challenging task and independent problem solving skills required. Sometimes, you are asked to develop an entire application on your own. I enjoy this process. It helps me improve my system design skills.

Team mechanic (Former Employee) –  Salina ksJune 4, 2017
Great pay, with many perks. Not for everyone due to it being very hot in the summer. This company will treat you well compared to most employers as they view employees as an asset.
Pros
Excellent pay and benefits
Cons
Very hot in the summer.

Managed the third shift quality control team. Lots of trouble shooting when things went wrong sometimes it was pretty quiet. The day shift had no regards for the off hours shifts though.

Electrical Mechanical Specialist (Current Employee) –  Salina, KSFebruary 3, 2017
Great place to work but with the slowing of the need for lamps things are getting getting tight. I have learned that it takes more than I thought to make a lamp. Good people at both ends work as a team (family). The harddest thing is to get a line back up in the shortest amount of time. The most enjoyable part of the job is the challenges.
Pros
great people
Cons
down sizing

Facilities Technician / production mechanic (Former Employee) –  Salina, KSJanuary 30, 2017
12 hour shifts 3-4 day work week. I learned everything there is to know about making fluorescent light bulbs and a lot about building maintenance. It is a very hot place with a large glass furnace where the glass is made. Most of the employees have worked their entire careers at this plant, and are very good hard working people, many of the management team started their career on the production floor and worked their way up some as far as plant manager.
Pros
3-4 days off per week
Cons
very hot

Could be a good place to work, but new processes changing constantly. Multiple manufacturing and design locations, headquartered in Europe, sometimes feels like you are just a number.
