great job that promotes Mediocrity
FSE (Former Employee), Long Island, NY – May 21, 2013
Pros: a job
Cons: not such a great place.
A job with no leadership.

Very strong short-term focus on earnings. Little long-term product vision and coordination around that vision. It is not unusual to start a project, work hard on it for several months, then have it suddenly canceled.

Lots of focus on process and paperwork, not enough focus on development and design. Many engineers spend more – more... than half of their time producing and maintaining documentation.

Working in product development feels tenuous. Management's dream is to contract out all development and simply add a Philips label to the finished product.

Expect a layoff or reorganization every 1-2 years, especially if the year-end earnings are looking shaky. It is not unusual to layoff an employee then hire him back as a contractor a few months later. – less

Bad Management
Medical (Former Employee), Northeast US – April 16, 2013
Pros: it can be rewarding if you are working with the right people
Cons: forget about advancement
For such a traditionally successful company, management on a middle and local level are completely detached and most times inept at their jobs. Many mid level managers I worked with/for in this company do not have a clue of what their direct reports are doing on a daily basis and do not understand business requirements to sustain long term growth. They – more... manage not necessarily to grow the business but strictly in self-preservation mode. – less

Philips is great but local change is tuff
Daybrite Lighting Operations/Factory Manager (Current Employee), Tupelo, MS – April 9, 2013
Philips is a great company that has required american plants that have never seen a lean enviroment. This tends to be the hardest chage within the management group. A work day is 12 hrs. How closed minded people are. Management over all at Philips is good nbut local is set in there ways. Co-workers lake knowledge. Hours worked with no light at the end. – more... Showing people change can work. – less

Junior Key Account Manager (Current Employee), Somerset, NJ – April 3, 2013
I like the open space environment in our office. We have a very flexible work schedule and everyone knows each other. We are a large corporation that acts like a small company. Everyone here are very friendly and keeps me wanted to stay longer in the company.

Personal Response Associate (Former Employee), Framingham, MA – March 20, 2013
A typical day associates could take about 200 emergency calls. I learnt to be patient and help when people are in distress, i learnt to manage myself, co-workers were great and helpful when needed. Hardest part was hearing that one of the clients passed away, fun part is making a client laugh.

Fast paced and clean environment. Friendly people.
FED-EX & UPS SHIPPING (Current Employee), TX – March 16, 2013
Pros: on the train and bus lines. fast paced work load. my own work section. 401 k plan; health, dental, vision insurance plans.
Cons: lacking in pay raise for some time now.
I like to work hard and stay busy. This job is a continuous flow of physical work and I have to keep supervising my helpers for any mistakes. Mistakes are crucial, as the addresses going out have to be correct and on time. I like to work by myself, as I am a responsible and on time employee, always arriving early and am able to stay late if needed. – more... When others mistakes slow down production, I like to problem solve and get the job done efficiently so we can all go home satisfied with a job's day well done.I would like to advance and also believe I am qualified for a higher pay rate. – less

Flexible position, working from home office.
Sr. In Home Support Representative, Team Leader (Former Employee), Framingham, MA – March 9, 2013
Pros: working from home office, setting my own schedule
Cons: compensation could be more competitive.
Philips Lifeline is a company that values its employees and the qualities they bring to the table. Clear goals are established by managements to further your career. Teamwork is stressed and is essential to job performance. Pitching in and helping other team members achieve their goals is also important. Truly enjoyed my other team members and supervision – more... was excellent. – less

Cons: distance, advancment opportunity
The benefits were good but the feeling of advancement was lacking. Senior level management didn't seem to care enough about the people.

A great place to learn how a small company and large corporation work
Software Development Engineer (Current Employee), El Paso, TX – March 1, 2013
Pros: multinational teams
I started working for a small company, which then got acquired by Philips. As part of Philips, our product now had a great name and reputation backing it, and it became part of the sales strategy for other information systems from Philips.

On one side an amazing multi-national company with an astonishing product portfolio. On the other side, due to its size it is a bureaucratic and inflexible company.
