Too Many Chiefs, Not Enough Indians
Associate Engineer (Former Employee), Appleton, WIJuly 21, 2014
Pros: above average pay and benefits, generous pto, many good people, great products
Cons: high pressure, top heavy management, unrealistic expectations, endless overtime, frequent layoffs
Pierce builds great products and most of the working people are friendly and fun to work with. Floor and office personnel work well together however the office is a very tough place to work. Upper management is top heavy and has excessive infighting, politics, and backstabbing between the various departments. Communication across layers of management – more... is very poor. Corporate culture is military like, you take your orders and keep your mouth shut.

One of the worst problems is all of the executives, directors and VPs coming from Oshkosh Corp trying to advance there careers and make names for themselves. Many are very arrogant, do not understand the custom manufacturing process that has made Pierce great. They are focused on making big changes and often impose processes and policies that damage and destroy productivity, morale and business overall causing loss of sales. There is never accountability in upper levels of management.

If you work for Pierce in engineering be prepared to work continuous overtime. Working staff is always maintained well below critical levels. They have a tendency to cut good people doing work and then hire more VPs and directors. This results in a very high stress environment with poor morale with very little opportunity to advance. – less

Front Sales Desk Receptionist (Former Employee), Appleton, WIMay 28, 2014
At Pierce I worked at the front sales desk. I greeted customers, answered phones and worked on miscellaneous projects. Hardest part of the job was that it would never be a permanent job for me. Most enjoyable part of my job was meeting new people from all over the US.

Job security was an issue at Pierce, it seemed like we were laying off employees and taking pay away every other quarter!

Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Former Employee), Appleton, WIAugust 22, 2012
Pros: wrongful discharge and defamation of character
Cons: being on the receiving end of the pros
I worked for Pierce for several years and when OTC stepped in, nobody was safe. They put their people in the places they wanted and then pushed the people that were good at their job right out the door by holding medical FMLA against attendance.

Non-union assembly plant that is slowly going downhill
Oshkosh Special Vehicles Electrician (Current Employee), Bradenton, FLMay 7, 2012
Pros: paid break, $15/hr starting wage
Cons: unpaid lunch, lots of layoffs, supply issues, inconsistent hours
a typical day starts with the first 15-20 minutes of people wandering around talking. Then they do it again atleast 10 minutes before any work stoppage. The idea there is to just look busy because there is not accountability. Most people work just hard enough not to get yelled at.
The quality of products is fairly high. But the production speed is just – more... above a crawl. – less
