If you like working mandatory overtime all summer, this is the place for you!
Maintenance Technician (Former Employee) –  Appleton, WIApril 25, 2016
Poor management and terrible communication. Overworked production and fabrication employees. Job pride is not as strong as it used to be, and products are suffering due to poor moral and lack of management support. Your peers are fun to work with but it is very difficult to advance within the production side of the company, as they are adamantly a non-union company, so there is barely any protection from poor management and they work on the good ol boy progressive system, they say they don't, but they do.
If you maintain good attendance and don't question their decisions, you are rather safe for job security, as your opinion or suggestions don't matter but it makes you a troublemaker.
Their benefits are decent, and they have an in-house nurse and a contracted physical therapy company that works with employee injuries in house. But management doesn't like you to be broken through their push on production, so suck it up and keep working.
Pros
Decent benefits, health, vision, life insurance, HSA, dental and 401k and Oshkosh stock purchase options.
Cons
Poor management and communication, tons of mandatory overtime

Too Many Chiefs, Not Enough Indians
Associate Engineer (Former Employee) –  Appleton, WIJuly 21, 2014
Pierce builds great products and most of the working people are friendly and fun to work with. Floor and office personnel work well together however the office is a very tough place to work. Upper management is top heavy and has excessive infighting, politics, and backstabbing between the various departments. Communication across layers of management is very poor. Corporate culture is military like, you take your orders and keep your mouth shut.

One of the worst problems is all of the executives, directors and VPs coming from Oshkosh Corp trying to advance there careers and make names for themselves. Many are very arrogant, do not understand the custom manufacturing process that has made Pierce great. They are focused on making big changes and often impose processes and policies that damage and destroy productivity, morale and business overall causing loss of sales. There is never accountability in upper levels of management.

If you work for Pierce in engineering be prepared to work continuous overtime. Working staff is always maintained well below critical levels. They have a tendency to cut good people doing work and then hire more VPs and directors. This results in a very high stress environment with poor morale with very little opportunity to advance.
Pros
above average pay and benefits, generous pto, many good people, great products
Cons
high pressure, top heavy management, unrealistic expectations, endless overtime, frequent layoffs

It is a great place to work. Everyone is very friendly and always willing to help you learn anything that you do not know. Work conditions are great, everything is kept very clean and organized. Management is always willing to listen to anything that you have to say. They are always looking for great ideas.

IT Service Desk Analyst (Former Employee) –  Appleton, WIOctober 2, 2014
Working for Pierce Manufacturing was my first full-time job as a civilian and I loved every minute of it. The customers and folks I worked with were a sheer joy to assist and be a part of. I enjoyed building bonds with the customers and with my coworkers. We had day to day duties to perform and accomplish. The system and structure at the Service Desk was impeccable. I not only established good relationships with the customers, but also created life-long friendships with my teammates at the Service Desk. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Pierce and would go back in a heartbeat.

Non-union assembly plant that is slowly going downhill
Oshkosh Special Vehicles Electrician (Current Employee) –  Bradenton, FLMay 7, 2012
a typical day starts with the first 15-20 minutes of people wandering around talking. Then they do it again atleast 10 minutes before any work stoppage. The idea there is to just look busy because there is not accountability. Most people work just hard enough not to get yelled at.
The quality of products is fairly high. But the production speed is just above a crawl.
Pros
paid break, $15/hr starting wage
Cons
unpaid lunch, lots of layoffs, supply issues, inconsistent hours

Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Former Employee) –  Appleton, WIAugust 22, 2012
I worked for Pierce for several years and when OTC stepped in, nobody was safe. They put their people in the places they wanted and then pushed the people that were good at their job right out the door by holding medical FMLA against attendance.
Pros
wrongful discharge and defamation of character
Cons
being on the receiving end of the pros

Front Sales Desk Receptionist (Former Employee) –  Appleton, WIMay 28, 2014
At Pierce I worked at the front sales desk. I greeted customers, answered phones and worked on miscellaneous projects. Hardest part of the job was that it would never be a permanent job for me. Most enjoyable part of my job was meeting new people from all over the US.
