I have worked with several strong mentors and been a strong mentor
over the years with a lot of true professionals. Unfortunately, with the sale of the weather channel in 2008, our company suffered major losses in senior management and leadership. Basically, I am ready for a fresh start. I have held several different positions over the years at Landmark and The Virginian-Pilot. Most recently, handling major accounts with our niche product lines, Inside Business, Apartment Book and our military newspapers and websites. I work mainly with marketing directors, owners and decision makers, but I have experience working with gate keepers to CEO's over my career. I have learned that strong interpersonal skills and attitude make the biggest difference in making a difference when it comes to impacting the bottom line. The hardest part of the job is watching the decline of the once powerful newspaper as we evolve in to an online world. It is difficult to replace print revenue with online revenue, due to the much lower rates online advertising demands. I still get a major charge out of closing a big sale and learning/teaching more about the ever evolving online advertising world. Our upper management team has not quite grasped the fact that we are in a much more competitive vertical in the media world today. They are still trying to manage with a monopolistic sales model, but recently I do see this changing for the better.
