Dispatcher, Dulles, VA - January 7, 2017
I worked as a dispatcher from 2011-2013. Since the position is through a government contract, there is no job security. They offer insurance but it is not very good. Management doesn't care about their employees, only to please the "client." You may think others are your friends, but they aren't...everyone is looking out for themselves and can quickly stab you in the back. This is a 24/7 job, and they expect you to be there. When you are promoted from dispatcher to lead, you quickly realize that there are many times you have to reprimand a fellow employee for rules that you yourself don't agree with. Many cliques, and if you are not part of the big dogs then it is only a matter of time before they nitpick you right out the door. There is not any formal job training, and most of their policies you learn as you go along. There is no set anything (for example, report writing, etc).
