Not that great...
Worker (Former Employee), PAFebruary 5, 2015
Pros: making a difference in peoples lives, cheap health insurance
Cons: just about everything else
I really started here with a love of counseling and more and more I am being placed into the role of bill
Collector. Thier main focus is earning money versus patient care and aotounomy. Staff are measured by how much money they earn versus the massive amount of time spent on paperwork and quality of sessions. Ethical guidlines within the counseling profession are clearly ignored and staff members are pushed to ignore ethical dilemas and bounderies being crossed by the designated favorites. Supervision with mangament revolves around finacial discussions on how to make them more money versus actual patient concerns. Disruptive and even agressive behaviors from clients are ignored thus putting staff in danger at times as they allow said behavior to continue without reprecutions or actually hiring a security officer. I would go to my supervisor with a concern and be ignored yet if others brought up the same concern they were taken seriously due to an established sense of privlidge. The environment is tense as certain counselors are afforded the pleasure of doing buisnuess as they please with no regard to other counselors, nursing staff, or patients. The pay rate varies from person to person depending on degree and experience level but if offered a position, really negotiate because there is little chance for raises and when they happen they are small. Additionally, positions that open up are offerd to designated favorites before being posted for all to have an oppurtunity to apply thus singling out other staff who have been there longer and are just as equally experienced and qualified. When opportunities came up
To talk about stated concerns no equal resolution was found, nor a compromise reached but rather just a simple passive attitude and a continual sense of things being left unresolved.

GOOD
Counselor (Current Employee), PAJanuary 28, 2015
Pros: good work ethic and above average salary
Cons: short lunch breaks and can be overwhelming at times
Hours are early but the plus is that management is helpful and co-worker's are friendly "except for those few employees."

The hardest part about the job is the amount of patients that come in and out the program. Trying to get patients to comply with treatment. As it is in any organization.

Meeting new people, having interaction with patients and providing a service to better their lives.

In general, it is a fast pace environment and can be exciting. You just have to be able to manage your time right.

Staff hours are flexible.

Does more harm than good for the people it serves
Counselor (Current Employee), PinnacleJanuary 20, 2015
Pros: most coworkers
Cons: everything else!
They only care about money. Treatment is based on whether or not someone has insurance or the ability to be cash pay. They overwork their employees and turn their counselors into bill collectors. Management doesn't stick up for employees and plays favorites. They do things to try and get around state guidelines and try to get their employees to commit fraud. If you want to help people look elsewhere. Safety is also of no concern as they refuse to hire security. Management talks down to their employees through belittling and even degrading name calling. Unless you're one of the "favorites" your every move is watched. Breaks are not allowed and management will remind you of that frequently and they will also time your lunch. Don't ever get sick either or you will be written up or your job will be threatened (you are also expected to be grateful if you keep your job). Don't expect to have a life outside of there as management deems it appropriate to harass you on your days off. If you enjoy being treated like dirt, being overworked, underpaid, and stressed, then by all means apply. Otherwise continuing looking for employment elsewhere.

Discouraging and Unethical Place to Work
Substance Abuse Counselor (Former Employee), Phillipsburg, NJJanuary 18, 2015
Pros: sometimes got free lunches
Cons: unethical, money hungry, corrupt
Pinnacle Treatment Centers, Inc. does not care about their employees or the patients that they serve. All they care about is money. When the company was doing well financially, we (the counselors) were able to put people on therapeutic contracts and discharge them from treatment for continuing to use illicit substances and being noncompliant. If the company, on the other hand, was not making a lot of money, we would have to keep everyone in treatment--even when they were continuing to use drugs/alcohol--and this made us look like jokes. This company also turns their heads at those people who smoke marijuana, which I believe to be ridiculous for a facility that is supposed to be treating substance abuse disorders. The upper management, such as program directors, lie all the time about things and are completely unsupportive. The director would make up supervsion hours and have me sign off on them as if they actually happened, or would take a 15 minute session and have me sign off that it was an hour. Also, there was no incentive to do well because the director didn't care about the quality of work. Often times, other counselors would get praised for just having documents in the charts, even if they were blatantly inaccurate. The human resources department was also a joke as I had written a formal complaint and I believe it was never taken seriously. I also know of several other former counselors who made complaints and HR just turned their backs and ignored all of them. Also, every counselor there is always above the maximum number of allowed patients by the state of NJ so they are all working above capacity. Some counselors had over 65 patients on their caseloads. This company is completely unethical and I would never, NEVER, recommend anyone to work there. I do have to say though that most of the counselors I worked with were very friendly and they did genuinely care about their patients. It is mostly upper management that is totally corrupt!

Just.... Wow.
Residential aide (Former Employee), Elizabethtown, KySeptember 5, 2014
Pros: sometimes you receive free lunch on tuesdays.
Cons: everything else.
They do not care about their employees. The higher ranking, like the directors above the Kentucky recovery works, are consistent and good. They never visit the building, except maybe the business director, to see how the place is running. They hire people who are still currently using drugs and convince clients to do things for them. I have never experienced something like this before. It's truly sad, mostly for the clients. They do not care about the clients, if they get sober or if they die - as long as they got their money from the desperate families everything is okay. Just be cautious about working here, hopefully it will change.

Terrible place to work
Former employee (Former Employee), Georgetown, KyAugust 7, 2014
Cons: poor management, poor pay, no ethics
This is a terrible place to work! No ethics, management cannot be trusted! They do not care about anything but money. NOTHING about getting or keeping people sober.. The patients run the place! They let people with no managerial experience in management positions and they have no idea what they are doing.. All employees are overworked and under paid. Be aware before you apply. It's not what they say it is..

Horrible place to work, chaotic, no one cares, hires people with no experience
Former employee (Former Employee), Georgetown kyJuly 17, 2014
Pros: good food
Cons: everything
Couldn't figure out how to give it zero stars so one will have to do. This is the worst place to work. They promote people who do not deserve it because someone in the system likes them and they are a suck up. All they do is lie to you and about you. Managers are only looking out for themselves. The whole place is shady, no structure and all they care about is getting people in the door. They don't care if they get better or they help them, they just want their money. They employee counselors that have less then a year of sobriety themselves and have apparently never heard of hippa. Then they overwork said counselors to where the patients can't even get good care no matter how good the counselor. This place is just a joke and a mess. I wouldn't wish my worst enemy to be employed there because it is so incredibly awful. The patient just run free and do what they want. They watch movies for group such as the hangover that have nothing to do with recovery and promotes drug use and drinking. There is not near enough space or staff for the patients and they have free reign and the ones who would actually want to get better don't have the opportunity because of the pure chaos. It's absolutely a joke so be very careful before you decide to work for this facility. It looks like glitter and rainbows to start, but don't be fooled.

Hellish
Former counselor (Former Employee), PADecember 19, 2013
Cons: the whole lot
Pinnacle is only interested in the bottom line. They have shoved their counselors into the position of arrears collectors, which they fallaciously work into the patient's "treatment plan" in order to skirt around the laws of states where patients cannot be turned down for treatment due to lack of funds. Patients regularly fall through the cracks, and they are merely $$$ to keep the operations running. The staff is maltreated by martinets in management. Teamwork is deplorable, and an atmosphere of paraoia, hypervigilance and backstabbing is the norm amongst employees. Their management is mercurial, disorganized, and cut throat. If you are a dependency counselor, look eleswhere. The hours are also murderous (5am/6am), and you'll have no life. Expect to work Saturdays. In an attempt to make more money, you'll be forced to carry in excess of 40 pts per case load. Expect no time to get your clinical paperwork done. Unless you are masochistic, stay away from Pinnacle Treatment Centers.

Horrible management
Counselor (Former Employee), PittsburghMarch 12, 2013
Pros: early hours, free parking
Cons: management
The south hills location of Pinnacle is being run by incompetant management. They are constantly committing insurance fraud & expect the counselors to commit fraud, as well. Management also plays favorites with regards to the treatment of the clients it is supposed to be serving.
