Plum Creek Timber Company, Inc. (Plum Creek) is a private timberland owner in the United States and owns 8.1 million acres of timberlands located in 21 states. The Company operates through five business segments: Northern Resource segment and Southern Resource segment, which manages its timberlands; Real Estate segment, which is engaged in the sale – more... and management of higher and better use timberlands and the sale of non-strategic timberlands; Manufactured Products segment, which converts logs to lumber, plywood and other wood products, and converts chips, sawdust and wood shavings to medium-density fiberboard (MDF), and Other segment, which focuses on opportunities resulting from its property ownership, including opportunities relating to mineral extraction, natural gas production, and communication and transportation rights of way. During the year ending December 31, 2003, the Company acquired 139,000 acres of timberlands located primarily in South Carolina, Arkansas and New Hampshire.
