While product sales account for a substantial portion of revenue, the company also offers information technology services, including application development, networking infrastructure design, desktop management, and technical support. Pomeroy markets to US-based organizations of all sizes in such sectors as government, education, finance, and health care. It also does business in Canada and Europe via regional sales offices. It has also counted public sector agencies and universities including the state goverments of Kentucky and Pennsylvania, and Vanderbilt University among its clients.
In a bid to expand its customer base beyond users of enterprise networking products and Microsoft-based applications, the company became an authorized reseller of Apple products in 2011; Pomeroy highlighted the MacBook Air and iPad as computing devices that its customers are interested in.
That year the company announced that acquisitions would become a greater part of a strategy to build its managed services business. Pomeroy noted that potential targets include cloud service providers, infrastructure management companies, and remote systems management and monitoring services providers. The expansion of Pomeroy's hosted and managed IT services business is in keeping with the broader trend among global IT companies and enterprise software providers toward offering products and services on a hosted basis to help clients cut down on their internal IT costs.
Cisco and HP have traditionally been the company's largest vendor partners. It also buys from wholesale distributors including Tech Data.
