About Port of Portland

Innovative, forward-thinking and modern aren’t usually words that spring to mind when you think of government. But here at the Port, we’re challenging assumptions every day. From our people to our building to the work that we do, we’re definitely not what you’d expect.

  • Yesterday, @icelandair sent Vatnajökull to PDX! This uniquely painted aircraft celebrates the airline’s 80th Anniversary in 2017. Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe, tumbles down the highest mountain ridge in Iceland in tremendous icefalls in the southeastern part of the country. The ice giant covers 8% of Iceland and is 1000 meters thick at its thickest (which equals 30m of ice evenly spread over all of Iceland!). Ice, water, and tectonic plate movements have shaped Vatnajökull’s surrounding landscape over millennia. Today, the whole area forms Europe´s largest natural reserve, The Vatnajökull National Park. Icelandair flies nonstop seasonally from PDX. #MyStopover
  • Objects in mirror are closer than they appear! Thanks to PDX airport operations specialist @smithtpdx for snapping this picture while escorting an Atlas Air Boeing 747-8 down Taxiway Charlie.
  • Quantem Aviation Services (ground handler for UPS) employees conducting their daily FOD walk on the aircraft parking ramp. FOD (Foreign Object Debris) are any pieces of trash on airfield surfaces that could interfere with flight. The employees walk slowly across the ramp, picking up FOD, prior to the day's first arrival. #safetyfirst 📷 credit: @theclearingpdx
  • Travelers now have more options when visiting the largest cities of Wisconsin and Maryland! @alaskaair starts seasonal nonstop flights between PDX and Milwaukee tonight; seasonal nonstop PDX-Baltimore flights start tomorrow! #VisitMilwaukee #VisitBaltimore
