About Porterville Unified School District
The Porterville Unified School District is a District of rich traditions and high expectations for all of our students. Since its beginning as an elementary school district in 1862, then the high school district in 1896, the two districts unified in 1998. In 2004, the Strathmore High School District merged with Porterville; and we are now a district – more... of over 13,500 students covering nearly 3,000 square miles.
You will find that we place our greatest priority on meeting the academic expectations of our parents, students and the State of California. We have defined and established clear content standards for our educational programs and provide the resources to meet these expectations. We offer a rich array of music, athletic, fine art and other extracurricular programs to help develop the whole student. You will find our emphasis in the career technical fields to be well beyond that found in most other school districts, and they help prepare students to enter career fields with job-ready skills. Our visual and performing arts programs begin in elementary schools and culminate with award-winning performances that have taken place throughout the world.
It is my pleasure to serve as the Superintendent of the Porterville Unified School District. I personally visit all 600 classrooms in the District at least two times every year. This serves as a continuous reminder of the incredible staff that exists in the Porterville Unified School District. I do not believe you will find more dedicated and professional teachers and support personnel than we have in P.U.S.D.
We have an outstanding Governing Board of Trustees that, in addition to its focus on educational outcomes, places the highest emphasis on the safety and wellbeing of our students. We continue to explore ways to expand our educational offerings to meet the challenges of today's students in a safe and nurturing environment.
