Overall, good job, pays good
Account Representative (Current Employee), Birmingham, Al – May 15, 2013
Pros: having a base pay as well as being able to make bonus on what you collect.
Cons: working for a growing company, even if you don't see where growth for yourself is possible.
The job itself is not hard,if you can get someone on the phone who is willing to pay on their account. The hardest part is the sitting at your desk for hours waiting for someone to answer their phone in order to get payment. The most enjoyable part of the job is getting to your goal and making bonus!

Great job
Account Representative (Current Employee), Hutchinson, KS – May 14, 2013
Pros: great pay, great benefits
Cons: can be mentally draining
Working for PRA has been a good place to learn good communication skills with people. They teach you about customer service and negotiations and really how to be conversational. A typical day consists of sitting in a desk for 8 hours. You are on the phone making outbound calls all day working with customers on their past due debts. The job is tedious – more... and can be slow at times. It is very mentally demanding and requires any given person to be strongly motivated. The co-workers are nice and uplifting people. The biggest struggle is getting past the issues on the phone you hear about on a daily basis. It's hard to listen to people complain about their financial situations, but being the best of PRA means you have to learn to overcome that and see what you can do to help the person on the other line of the phone. Truly the most rewarding aspect of the job for me was the affirmation and praise employees get from management. For such a hard job, you are well rewarded with positive criticism and praise for the hard work you do. – less

Productive workplace
Legal Collector (Current Employee), Las Vegas, NV – April 28, 2013
-a typical day at work is to sign into your computer, check through any calls that you need to follow up on, get onto automated or manually dialing(whichever your manager assigns you to), then make your calls. You get two 15 minute breaks and an hour lunch. You can converse with your neighbors but talking is to be kept to a minimal time period.
- I – more... learned about what could happen if you don't pay off your debt. It also helped me to gain people skills with understanding hardship situations, and doing everything within my authority to help make sure that it doesn't become a more extreme situation then it already is. I have also gained great negotiating, or sales, skills.
-The management is always willing to help with whatever you need. They will get on the phone for you, send out any necessary letter for the customer to feel comfortable to pay the company, critiquing calls that are made so we know what to do differently with each call in order to be successful.
-My coworkers are a very diverse group of people. They are also always willing to help and each person has their own way of handling the customers. You learn a lot and gain different skills when listening to ways other people handle calls.
-The hardest part of the job is to try and get the customers that are not willing to pay, they are called professional debtors, they open up accounts without any intention to pay back the money that they spent. Also, so many people have had bad experiences with collection agents that don't treat them with respect that they want nothing to do with you over the phone and don't give you a chance to show them that you are really there to help them and not talk down on them. I have worked in customer service since I first started working and going from that to collecting was difficult. Hearing stories of why people fell behind on their bills is extremely hard to deal with.
-The most enjoyable part of the job is when people that are willing to pay, and have to means to, actually pay their debt or start a repayment plan. Hearing the relief and the joy in the customers voice knowing that they won't have to go through (in my opinion) unnecessary measurements to repay.

While I am very fortunate to have this job, it just isn't the type of work that is right for me. – less

Productive and great plase for a new experience
Account Representative (Current Employee), Jackson, TN – April 25, 2013
Pros: this job surely keeps my math skill fresh
Cons: all offices are open on sunday
The most enjoyable part of the job is how I get to talk to people from all over and sometimes get to know a little about them or the area they live in. A typical day at work consist of several phone calls to customer to help them figure out what their financial budget is so that I can calculate an affordable payment plan for them

Debt collector
Collection Specialist (Former Employee), Jackson, TN – April 24, 2013
Pros: great bonus incentives each month but management never stayed long
Cons: hearing everybodys stories about their lives.
Calling and sitting up payment arrangements with the customers if they could not pay it in full. Had to meet goals each day. You only had time to speak to coworkers at break and lunch and there was such a big turnover you never really had the same people on your team very long. Best part of job being rewarded for all you hard work with your bonus each – more... month. – less

Account Representative- Collections Agent (Former Employee), Norfolk, VA – March 7, 2013
Pros: free lunch once a month.
Cons: no real job security
Collections is extremely stressful and not for the week at heart. You must be aggressive and be able to get payments in order to stay in the company.
