This was a fun job!
Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) –  Portland, ORJuly 19, 2017
I loved this job. I got to meet students from different parts of the world. This job took on students who did not have any experience and it teaches you how to work with other students. The workplace culture and environment was very diverse and everyone was coordinated and got along easily.
Pros
The bosses were amazing and the employees were fun to work with.
Cons
The contracts were only good for a year and you had to be a student.

SAS, DS, CEC (Current Employee) –  Portland, ORJune 29, 2017
I love all of the different departments environments that I work in. Direct management and the diversity within the workplace is incredible. It can be difficult to advance due to budget, HR, and the interview processes. Overall an incredible place to work if you have a higher education.

Educational Chemistry Lab Technician (Former Employee) –  Portland, ORJune 22, 2017
Earn money and experience while continuing your education. There is little to no room for advancement, but the experience can be invaluable in finding job after graduation.

Excellent Education for Immigrants and Refugees
English-as-a-Second-Language Instructor (Current Employee) –  Portland, ORJune 8, 2017
I work in a program that provides excellent education for our immigrant and refugee students. All of our teachers have Masters Degrees with many years of teaching. We are all members of TESOL. Our department chair offers support on a regular basis. It has been a great place to work.
Cons
Because of enrollment, teacher are not sure how many classes they will get.

Great place to work but temporary
Cashier/Customer Service (Current Employee) –  Portland, ORMay 26, 2017
Awesome job for a full-time student, management was great but the hardest part of the job is the instability. They change workers often due to students changing schedules each term. So if you end up being kept on after rush week, then you have a pretty solid job for as long as you want. You just have to have a solid work ethic, no slacking off. The best part of the job is being around people from all ages and all walks of life. Great place to make lasting professional connections.
Pros
great workplace culture
Cons
short breaks, instability

FRONT OFFICE RECEPTIONIST (Former Employee) –  Portland, ORMay 10, 2017
Worked on 4 month contract to develop the Front Office Receptionist position procedures. I got to meet everyone who worked in the building, and enjoyed working with all of them. Interacted with students, and faculty over the phone, and in person. Working downtown Portland was awesome. The one hour lunch break allowed plenty of time to grab lunch, and go for a walk along the waterfront.

Basic community college setting
Sociology Adjunct Faculty (Current Employee) –  Portland, ORMay 2, 2017
Good place to work although adjunct teaching jobs seem to be disappearing. Management is aware of this and attempting to work through the issue. The hardest and most enjoyable part of the job involves relations with students. There is a heavy emphasis on getting students to complete their degree at PCC and then moving on to a four-year institution.
Pros
Open hours, health care and retirement, good students
Cons
Less and less hours available.

Nice place to work but doesn't pay much considering how much time you put in and no job security. Many many people work part time and there are few full-time openings.

Friendly environment for those who love books and great people
Cashier/Bookseller (Current Employee) –  Bethany, ORJanuary 27, 2017
A typical day at the bookstore starts with preparing for the day with some light cleaning, organizing and stocking of the shelves, and prepping to do book runs. For some it means working on web orders or recording inventory on merchandise shipments, depending on your personal level of experience and interest in these projects. Everyone is friendly, accepting, and compassionate, including the management. The most difficult part of working in the bookstore throughout the term is being a self starter and keeping busy during the slow times when there are one or two customers coming in every other hour. The most enjoyable part of the job is the people; coworkers, management, and the customers are all generally friendly, smiling people whose goal it is for everyone to succeed in their college goals and have a great day.
Pros
Snacks on the break table sometimes, microwave, refrigerators, lockers to store personal items, coffee pot, and plenty of stuff for tea or to make food
Cons
Angry customers, extremely slow work times
