Hot hot hot (Summer and Winter)
staff (Former Employee), vaJune 20, 2014
Pros: busy in spurts mostly. not continuous labor.
Cons: can't bring in h2o
Leave your personal items in the car. Can't bring food, snacks, or even an unopened bottle of water in. Making their money from snack machines riddled around the campus. Hard to get relief for break. Forget teamwork here. Staff is super catty. Like being back in JR High on a daily. Clientele is rarely a problem, staff is always drama filled.

Correctional Officer II (Former Employee), State Farm, VAAugust 12, 2013
Pros: benifits, free lunch, team work, special events
Cons: short staffed
A typical day at Powhatan was filled with exciment, team work and control of offenders. The officers were treated as officers and offenders as they were. When there was an gaol to reach the officers on staff would all pull together to get the job/task at hand completed because the main goal was to go home as we came in all together.

Very stressful but rewarding work environment
Corrections Officer (Current Employee), Powhatan, VAMarch 30, 2013
Pros: health benefits and days off
Cons: short breaks, dealing with offenders
The first thing I do when I get to work is conduct a security round in the cell block to make sure there isnt any contraband around eg: cell phones, tobbacco or weapons. I am in direct contact with the offenders for the whole 12 hr shift. Ive learned to have alot of patience not only at work but in life. My co-workers are pretty good some are better – more... than others same with supervisors. The hardest part of my job is to be around offenders for 12hrs everyday and dealing with their attitudes. The best part of my job is that I get great benefits and Im off every 5 days. – less

It more diversity, with people from all over the world in different role. I did enjoy my administration and staff with supporting one another and work as a team to archieve our mission. Career oportunities are available
