Company in the middle of being acquired by a larger company
Director, Talent Management (Current Employee), Raleigh, NC –
Pros: flexible work
Cons: average pay
A typical day at work is fast-paced. I learned more about heavily regulated business and public utilities as well as mergers and acquisitions. The management team is average, but diverse. Co-workers are pleasant and eager to learn and develop. The hardest part of the job is driving change. The most enjoyable part of the job is building the case for – more...  organizational change and improvement. – less

Instrument and Control Technician Journeyman (Current Employee), Crystal River, FL –
A typical day at work involved a tailgate meeting, pairing up and taking on assigned sections of an overall project, breaks, and a wrap up at the end of the shift. Good people, good pay and allowances.

Compensation and Sales
Customer Service Billing Representative (Current Employee), Atlanta, GA –
Pros: hour lunches, flexible schedule changes, helpful management
Cons: short breaks, compensation, difficult customers, accuity payscale
Working as a customer service representative handling billing inquiries starting and stopping electrical service is a fairly easy job, on the daily you could possible complete your tasks without even thinking the difficulty only comes when you get irate customers which comes about every 3rd call out of the 125-150 you take. There is a daily sales goal – more...  that is required which is achievable however the pay scale you are placed on which is called an acuity system makes it almost impossible to get a perfect sales score even when you are making the daily required goal so with that and the low hourly wage given you just scrape by financially. With all the work forced on you daily you could work with the company for 5+ years and still never receive a raise, management is great with schedule changes and days requested but the stress that comes with your daily tasks the customer service representative wages should increase at least to $12-$13 an hour without the sales quota effecting that amount. – less

Contractors needed as salary employees spend too much time unproductive.
Title Examiner (Former Employee), Lake Mary, Florida –
Pros: core hours 9 to 3
Cons: too much politics in the office environment.
Your employment as a contractor is at the whim of your department manager, which is really not more than a supervisor. Depending on their mood that day you can have a job for another day or get a phone call when you get home that they no longer need you. The department manager/supervisor does not have to qualify why you were released to anyone above – more...  in management. There is no check and balance system. I was told my work was great but I did not socialize enough. – less

Great benefits, need to put in practice culture/values....
CSR (Former Employee), Clearwater, Fl –
Pros: great benefits, good salary
Cons: very hard to advance, no positions available, needs to practice its core values.
Progress Energy has one of the best salaries in the area for CSR's-great benefits overall. The supervisor I had was never in the office, micro-management is the order of the day. The job is very demanding, stressful. You are talking to people who had their services disconnected because they could not paid, etc. Management-could do a lot better. The – more...  company promotes culture/values highly but needs to put them into practice...You will get a new schedule every month which is good. The hours are basically from 8am until 9pm Mon-Fri and you have to be available in case of emergencies. Sometimes you will be on call with a beeper. – less

Great place, even for a contractor
Sr. IT Consultant (Current Employee), Raleigh, NC –
Pros: great balanace between home and work, good pay
I have been contacting at Progress Energy for 18+ months, and it has been a great experience. The managers are realistic with their expectations, my coworkers are (generally) a happy bunch -- contrast this with the usual water cooler banter.

As a contractor, I do have to get renewed every 6 months, which is a bit nerve wracking every time (especially – more...  with the Duke Energy merger ), and of course there is no room for career enhancement. – less
