We’re looking for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join a fast-paced start-up in the health and wellness industry. Our goal is to change the way that people monitor and understand their health, and by doing so we want to change healthcare. We want driven, smart, passionate people who can work well in a team and who want to have a real impact on a product that will directly affect people’s lives. This is a great opportunity to be part of something significant in an industry on the verge of technology driven change.

You will be building the software in C for a new wearable device from the ground up. You will have the ability to design, architect, and choose necessary technology for the device. We want you to drive decisions including which MCU is best and whether to use an RTOS. As a Senior Engineer, you will be involved early in the product process and will be instrumental in defining features and functionality for the device.

Some of the challenges you will face include:

-Driving electronics decisions including the MCU, display technology, and memory.
-Creating a robust strategy for power management to optimize the usage time of the device.
-Developing and using advanced algorithms for data compression and data transfer.
-Implementing data processing and analysis on the device.
-Creating compelling interaction with the device and display of information
-Implementing Bluetooth LE communication.

Our product development process is lightweight and collaborative. We believe in getting everyone involved and moving fast. You will be collaborating with UX, Data Analysts, and notable Subject Matter Experts to determine what to do. We are an early stage of our product development in general which means that you can have a big impact. We want all of our engineers to have a good sense of business value and how to juggle the experience we are shooting for, the value we’re providing, and what’s possible technically. We will use Scrum and Kanban to manage work and to keep the big upfront design to a minimum, preferring instead to evolve and discover the right solution.

We expect you to have:

-5-10 years of relevant experience
-Knowledge of the range of MCU’s and their pros and cons (including offerings from PIC, TI, Atmel)
-Knowledge of different RTOS’s and when one is necessary
-Experience using a variety of sensors
-Wireless communication and networking
-DSP, signal and image processing
-Understanding of machine communication protocols

We are especially looking for people who have committed to relevant open source projects, have advanced degrees, relevant academic projects, and/or ‘blue chip’ work experience. We will be making extensive use of advanced analytics (statistics, machine learning, predictive models, etc) across our system so relevant experience is a plus.
