The company's Gale division gives libraries and others access to 400 years and 10 million digitized pages of newspapers and periodicals through the NewsVault service.

Mergers and Acquisitions
The company has historically used acquisitions to expand its product catalog and to address specific content niches and trades. In 2011 Cengage bought the school publishing unit of National Geographic Society. The deal expanded the company's rights to distribute National Geographic digital and print content such as photos, articles, maps, and videos to educational institutions and libraries worldwide. The unit was combined with the operations of Cengage Learning ELT and rebranded as National Geographic Learning.
