More than fifty years later on October 3, 2000 Edelweiss Credit Union and Fraser Valley Credit Union announced plans for a potential merger. The merge would combine two viable credit unions, creating a stronger financial institution, while retaining community identities and service values upon which the credit unions were founded.

A formal proposal was brought to the credit unions' respective memberships in the spring of 2001. By late November, Edelweiss and Fraser Valley were a step closer to an amalgamation after the Boards of Directors formally approved the business case for the merger.

On March 28, 2001, members of both credit unions voted overwhelmingly in favour of a merger. Of votes cast, 93% of Fraser Valley members voted in favour of an amalgamation and 92% of Edelweiss members voted positively in uniting these two well-respected credit unions. The merger came into effect on May 1, 2001 under the interim legal name of Fraser Valley Edelweiss Credit Union.

More recently, acknowledgment as one of the 50 Best Employers in Canada for 2006 might be considered noteworthy and debuting straight into the top twenty is undoubtedly commendable, but placing at number 14 when contrasted with national peers in the "medium sized" employer group is typical Prospera.

Steadfast focus on work place culture, flexible benefit programs tailored to individual employees, ongoing training and professional development, and a keen focus on internal communications are a few of the values that strengthen moral. It has also led employees to volunteer their participation in the Globe & Mail "50 Best Employers in Canada" survey with Prospera's lauded debut as the ultimate validation of employee focused initiatives.
