Protective Life Corporation is a holding company whose subsidiaries provide financial services through the production, distribution, and administration of insurance and investment products. The Company operates in five segments: Life Marketing, Acquisitions, Annuities, Stable Value Products and Asset Protection. At December 31, 2007, the Company had insurance in force of $765.2 billion, of which approximately $532 billion was ceded to reinsurers. In February 2007, the Company sold Matrix Direct, Inc. to American General Life Insurance Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of American International Group, Inc.
