EXAMPLE: Dart Energy-an international corporation with branches in South America and the Middle East, as well as numerous subsidiary companies-contracted with PTD Technology to analyze its current and future technology needs relative to corporate goals and objectives. Dart had IBM AS-400 servers for data processing, plus a wide assortment of personal computers running various operating systems, and an equally varied collection of productivity software. In addition, the company planned to purchase and install a new phone system. Our study became a blueprint for Dart's application of technology worldwide, including requirements for phone system integration.
EXAMPLE: Michigan's Department of Agriculture engaged PTD Technology to design, develop, and implement an application that would allow its far-flung staff to submit travel-and-expense reports via the Internet. Working closely with the department's database administrators, our analysts and programmers created an award-winning system whose user components are entirely Web-based, while administrative components include a custom Oracle database and interface with an out-of-state, mainframe accounting system. As a result, departmental employees now submit electronic T&E reports directly into the database over the Web, then receive reimbursement checks in days rather than weeks. By reducing the paperwork burden on individual employees as well as the department's accounting staff, the system saves the state hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.
