Three c-suites in a 2 year period pretty much sums up the culture and the experience for many working at Accretive Health now R-1. Some great employees but unfortunately the early leadership was terminated leaving much dust in their wake

Questionable business practices
Operations Lead (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILSeptember 13, 2017
employees were expected to work in a healthcare setting and disregard the patient in an effort to get money for the client. this was very difficult for patients to accept when they were seeking medical tx in a charity hospital.

Billing was questionable as well as giving monetary bonuses for collections in the emergency department. questionable business practices such as possible EMTALA violations.

Patient Registration Representative (Former Employee) –  Birmingham, ALAugust 30, 2017
The pay is very good but now the entire department has turned into a call center. Titles for employees were changed to represent that of a call center and your constantly taking calls all day until time for your shift to end. They have a system that just started that tells you when to take your breaks and lunch instead of initially our breaks and lunches were flexible and when we chose to take. The company has a very huge turnover not only because the environment is horrible, but they constantly micro manage everything you do. They will write you up for any little thing especially when they have a huge hiring class coming in. The office has no morale, no perks, no bonuses, no incentives, and no flexibility in time. You have to give 24 hour notice to take sick leave or its unexcused and because of the high turnover if one person is out you will most likely not get the date your requesting. The team leads and department leads will smile in your face as long as youre snitching on other employees and DO NOT ever tell your personal business to management because none of them can hold water even when you complain about another employee management will go back and tell the employee you reported. Be very aware that when you accept the pay offer you know exactly what you're getting into, what sounds good is not always good and you will see once you start working for the company. They will tell you that there is room for growth but thats only because the company can't keep the good team leads and senior representatives that come through the door.

Financial Counselor (Current Employee) –  Austin, TXAugust 22, 2017
R1 not up to speed w/gov't programs. Most enjoyable-Brain storming to complete tasks. Mgr assists staff if needed coverage. Shift changing to 10 hrs/d
Pros
I love the person-to-person interaction with patients, knowing I am making a difference in someone's life.
Cons
No short breaks allowed unless accounts have been completed, high turn around since they do not properly train, not enough staff to complete all accounts requirements

Patient Service Representative (Current Employee) –  Milwaukee, WIAugust 17, 2017
R1 RCM came into my hospital about a year ago, things have actually gotten worse. Most of the people that had been in the department for years have left, meaning they have brought in new unqualified employees who should probably be working at Wal-Mart. They reprimand the good employees who show up every day and do their job as best as possible, but the bad employees are coddled and given advancements.

Cash Analyst (Current Employee) –  Southfield, MIAugust 8, 2017
This company is totally disorganized from the day you show up! Training is a joke and management is totally all about cronyism. Go some place real that values their employees as people. Cash posting managers are idiots who are ill-equipped to provide proper training for the position. The first 4 weeks you sit on your hands and do nothing because they don't have a clue what they're doing or how to train staff.

Employee Appreciation & Company Loyalty
Manager, Shared Services Training & Development (Former Employee) –  Southfield, MIJuly 8, 2017
Very little employee appreciation and company loyalty. Corporate location and shared services management team including VP's are extremely young, have little to no experience and disregard those who have the plan and path to reach global goals.
Pros
Salary Good.

in and compensate for new assignments while your people are getting the lay of the land. Get feedback on a higher level on how department managers/heads are doing to promote a better "culture." So far, a solid F.

The R1RCM IT organization is challenged with strategic inconsistency and leadership focus. Staffing levels for IT projects run with limited resources, creating challenges for team members.
Pros
Huge opportunity to grow the business and provide a true value to their clients.
Cons
Related to IT management, long days, unreasonable expectations, lack of project funding

Not worth your time
Insurance Specialist (Current Employee) –  Kalamazoo, MIJune 23, 2017
Being able to get your time off is next to impossible unless you are best friends with your boss. There is a lot of conflicting direction with how to do your tasks, and meetings for performance are very staged and ineffective. Other depts have overtime but they micromanage certain depts and will make you take extended breaks to get rid of as little as 20 mins extra that you accumulated in a WEEK.
Pros
lots of free food
Cons
micromanaging, favoritism, and no overtime
