This hotel caters to explorers traveling in style. Radisson Hotels & Resorts is a leading upscale hotel brand, with about 420 franchised locations in some 70 countries. The chain offers a full complement of amenities for both business and leisure travelers, including fine dining, fitness centers, and meeting rooms. Its resort locations typically boast such niceties as beachfront locations, golf courses, or skiing. Radisson Hotels takes its name from the French explorer Pierre Esprit Radisson, who visited many parts of the Upper Midwest and Canada during the 17th century. The company is the flagship luxury brand of Carlson Hotels Worldwide, part of the hospitality and business services giant Carlson Companies.
A key part of Carlson's overall business strategy is to expand the Radisson brand, including opening flagship Radisson hotels in key gateway cities in the US, such as Chicago and Minneapolis. All total it plans to grow its portfolio to at least 600 hotels by 2015. This involves increasing the number of Radissons, many of which will be in the Asia/Pacific region, to more than 100 hotels. Such efforts include the 2011 opening of the Radisson Royal Hotel, Dubai and the development of the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel in Bangkok, Sukhumvit.
About 50 of the Radisson hotels in Asia/Pacific are Radisson Blu, another of the company's international hotel brands. Radisson Blu (formerly Radisson SAS) is the upper upscale tier of the Radisson brand and is a partnership with Rezidor Hotel Group, a leading European hotel operator that is 50.1%-owned by Carlson. Radisson Blu has more than 400 locations across the globe open or under development. – less
