I was on call 24/7 with a beeper, no cell phone. I was the only person in the maintenance dept. I did all aspects of building repair/maintenance alone. I learned to depend on myself and not necessarily management for assistance.
Management asked me to do certain nursing duties such as feeding residents and pushing wheelchairs to dining hall when I had pressing repairs to make.
Our Housekeeping Supervisor tried to help me with certain things such as replacing beds, assembling beds and wheelchairs, installing TV's, etc.
The hardest part of the job was being called (beeped) 3-4 times at night at times and having to call in, then no one knew why I was called. I was asked to "write in" certain documentation that I hadn't had time to actually perform.
The most enjoyable part was the gratitude of the residents and family members for "small or large" things I did for them.
