Pros: good patient population
Cons: poor nurse preceptor, no support, lack of organization
Typical day as a nurse in cardiology was taking care of patients. Had a bad experience working at Rex just out of nursing school. They put on a great dog and pony show about teaching and encouraging new employees like nursing school graduates, but I experienced a nightmare. One of the many problems I noticed on the floor where I worked was total disorganization
– more... of materials, supplies, and necessary documentation. I could not even get the names of the patients' doctors from the secretaries! Had a preceptor who was never around, but when she was, she berated me for doing something wrong. Would never recommend that a nurse take a position at Rex H. after that experience. I had previously worked in a more professional type of environment for 20 years, and was shocked at how Rex H. treated staff nurses. I understood from others that the nurse turnover at Rex H. is high. Can't think of any enjoyable aspect of the job except for being around nice patients. – less
