When it comes to electrical distribution, Rexel excels. The company is one of the largest distributors of datacom and electrical parts and supplies in the US. Its products include home electrical equipment; networking, communications, and security products; solar energy systems; and heating and lighting materials. Rexel's customers are primarily contractors, utilities, government institutions, and industrial manufacturers. The company operates distribution locations in some 30 states and the Bahamas. Rexel also provides consulting, leasing, logistics, and technical support services. Rexel Inc. is a division of International Electric Supply Corp., a holding company for Rexel S.A.'s US operations.
Rexel has grown as its parent has bought small and midsized distribution businesses across the US, in addition to making major acquisitions. It has also grown organically through expansion of its distribution centers in order to consolidate its regional market share. In 2010 the company announced a new distribution center in Loveland, Colo., to serve the Mountain West region. It will serve customers in northern Colorado and southern Wyoming from a 20,000-sq. ft. distribution center with better access to transportation than the three existing Colorado locations.
The company also moved to a new Dallas-area headquarters location in 2010 that is more efficient and eco-friendly. Rexel touts the new building for having an infrastructure that will let it expand its customer service capabilities and allow for future growth, in addition to lowering its overall costs.
In mid-2007 Rexel bought Tri-Valley Electric Supply of Casa Grande, Arizona. The firm, renamed Rexel Tri-Valley, became part of Rexel, Inc.'s West Coast Division.
Rexel's 2006 acquisition of GE Supply from General Electric substantially increased the company's operations in North America, which accounts for nearly 40% of sales. GE Supply, renamed Gexpro, operates as a stand-alone organization and has more than 150 locations across the US, and in Mexico and Puerto Rico.
Rexel got more of a presence in New England through its 2006 acquisition of Capitol Light & Supply, also known as CLS. The firm is now known as Rexel CLS and Rexel Capitol Light. Rexel CLS has branches in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. – less
