Pros: competitive pay
Cons: poorly ran company - long hours - outdated systems
Be careful if going to work for this company as they are struggling. They have a hard time hold onto drivers and without enough drivers you cannot move all of the committed freight. I was hired to replace a dispatcher that left and was laid off four months later.
Their dispatch system is hard to learn and use and information sharing seems to be a struggle.
– more... I worked in the transportation industry for 8 years at two other companies. This was my least favorite position as everything was a struggle. If you need information it took around eight phone calls to figure out what the correct person to talk to was. Each person was focused on their work and the team environment was not present. They paid well, but not worth the hassle. This was a high stress position and a typical day was around 9-10 hours (usually with a working lunch). There was zero tracking on the trucks and no one cared if a driver was over there hours - most dispatchers planned drivers to work more than legally able to. All dispatching was done over the phone and/or email and nextel was the preferred communication device. Work took twice as long due to the lack of modern updates (ie: qualcom). – less
