Linux Systems Engineer

Rodan + Fields is seeking a highly motivated Linux Systems Engineer to assist our current support administrators and to perform advanced tasks related to our expansion.


  • Provide expertise and consultation regarding system configuration, performance, capacity planning, security and quality
  • Identify solution alternatives and advise on potential systems and environments risks, including systems stability and security
  • Research and recommend architectural designs and improvements to systems
  • Work with IT teams to optimize system performance, including applications, network, storage, database and server technology
  • Diagnose, isolate, troubleshoot, and solve technical issues
  • Provide assistance with automation of software installation processes
  • Create, test, and maintain Linux shell scripts
  • Install, configure and manage virtual machines using XenServer and VMware technologies
  • Analyze systems to determine technical requirements that satisfy business requirements
  • Lead the evaluation, selection and deployment of new technologies and tools on Linux platform
  • Responsible for complex architectural design and development of hardware, software and networking systems
  • Provision, configure and maintain Linux systems, including routine and complex administration, security, patching, firewall, antivirus, backup/restore, etc.
  • Ensure completeness and compatibility of the technical infrastructure to support system performance
  • Recommend and implement systems best practices
  • Support and maintain systems network communications
  • Solve complex technical systems issues, including OS, web server, database server, applications server, DNS, LDAP, SMTP, etc.
  • Own subsystems with a high degree of accountability

Diagnose and fix complex server and system-wide issues

  • Develop process and technical documentation, including systems architecture diagrams
  • Create project work plans


  • 10+ years of UNIX / Linux administration
  • 5+ years of information systems design/architecture experience
  • 2+ years of managing systems implementations
  • Exposure to IT Service Management Framework (itSFM) and ITIL methodology (Incident, Problem and Change Management Lifecycles, specifically)
  • Advanced knowledge of Puppet, backups, antivirus, firewalls, caching, CDN, cluster management, firmware, HTML, Linux shell scripting (Perl, Bash, Korn), OS/DISTR, OSPF/IOS, SMTP/mail relays, SSL certificates, systems design, and web servers
  • Advanced knowledge of Linux kernel, packet management, advanced scripting language, Auth / Directory services, LDAP, DNS, BIND, HA, networking, TCP/IP packet analysis and management, security, storage, systems optimization, patching
  • Advanced knowledge of FTP/S, SMTP/S, HTTP/S, SSH, Apache/Tomcat, networking, VPN (SSL and IPSec)
  • Expert knowledge of hardware, load balancing (BIG IP F5 preferred) and performance monitoring
  • Advanced knowledge of MIS objectives and strategies
  • Excellent technical knowledge in technology methodologies, design, and implementation
  • Excellent analytical and design skills at multi-product / multi-environment level
  • Aware of business issues as they impact overall project plans
  • Strong communication, collaborative and interpersonal skills
  • Able to resolve problems in a timely manner
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience
  • Proficient with MS Visio and MS Project
  • RHCSA and/or RHCE certification or equivalent preferred
