Good company. I had many opportunities there.
Compensation Analyst (Former Employee), Indianapolis, IN – April 2, 2013
Rolls-Royce has grown as a company in the time that I worked there. A "ship" as big as Rolls-Royce is sometimes hard to turn, but as far as stability and great co-workers, I really appreciated my time there.

The engineering office is typical of most engineering offices that I have worked at.
Design Engineer (Current Employee), Indianapolis, IN – March 18, 2013
Pros: work is interesting
Cons: living in a hotel
I am presently employed at Rolls-Royce trying to cost reduce their existing existing engine models and also new designs that re presently being introduced. My management and co-workers are terrific and I enjiy working here, but since I am not with my family life become difficult.

I am presently looking for emplyment closer to my home on Hilton Head – more... Island, SC. Working in Savannah would be better then living in a hotel. – less

Temporary Employee through their HR Dept.
Administrative Assistant (Former Employee), Mount Vernon, OH – March 9, 2013
Pros: pleasant work environment and co-workers.
Cons: temporary work with not benefits.
I worked in several different departments for the company in Administrative Assistant positions to work when one of their employees was on medical leave or had to work in another area for a time. Management was always very appreciative of the work done and pleasant to work with. Co-workers were always pleasant and helpful if I needed something. The – more... hardest part of the job was knowing that it was only temporary. The most enjoyable part was getting to work while laid off using my work skills and experience. – less

Great Opportunity
Regional Purchasing Manager (Current Employee), Reston, VA – March 3, 2013
Pros: career growth, emphasis on work life balance, well positioned company that has consistently performed to the city's expectation
Cons: collegial decision making process can be frustrating, high turnover as the company promotes individuals approximately every two years, along with the general pace fo the aerospace industry
Well positioned global organization with a strong product offering well positioned for future growth. The Supply Chain is maturing and a focus has been put on continuous improvment, cost reduction, and developing the organization. Various Purchasing roles can be very challenging as the environment is fast paced and at the same time a challenge given – more... the strict regulations applied to the Aerospace sector. Lots of opportunities for Supply Chain professionals and a great place to obtain valuable global exposure and experience. – less

Senior Management doesn't have a clue what they are doing.
Engineer (Former Employee), Indianapolis, IN – February 13, 2013
Pros: respect in the community.
Cons: declining benefits for salaried employees.
The harder you work, the farther behind you become. Sometimes it is best to do nothing. Suggestions for process improvements are run through political filters as much as financial filters and seldom come into practice.

There is very little discourse between employees and management. Management does not care what the salaried employees have to say, – more... yet they give the Union leaders everything they ask for and more.

Constant reorganization leads to confusion and massive inefficiencies. Compressor parts are two months early while turbine parts are two months late. Hello? Doesn't Management know that the mechanics can't assemble and ship an engine until all the parts are there?

The most enjoyable part of the job is your co-workers. The hardest part of the job is seeing good people with 20+ years of experience walked out the door because they are the wrong race or too old. Overall, management likes to talk the talk, but they fail miserably when it is time to walk the walk. – less

Toxic, Unable to Execute and on a Downward Spiral
Purchasing (Former Employee), Mount Vernon – January 26, 2013
RR Energy is a Delphi infested British Bureaucracy. One Delphi employee who joined RR Corporate Purchasing in early 2000 has brought along most of his Delphi (the bankrupt automotive supplier) coworkers and they are now trying to "transform" RR with their track record and experience at Delphi - the truth is that they get employee loyalty by hiring friends – more... and that leads to political leverage in a highly dysfunctional political organization struggling to deliver results. This nepotism exists in all organizations, but is especially rampant in Energy - Mount Vernon and “buddies” are hired at all levels with no one held accountable. In Mount Vernon, psychology majors, Aramark food supervisors, priests and UPS store employees are all hired as supplier quality "engineers" and technical managers because HR is clueless and so is upper management - both of which are churned out every two years or so to add to the chaos. Learned helplessness is very prevalent and the system is 'you scratch my back and I scratch yours'. Numbers and metrics are changed to hide true performance and meet year end goals. Sandbagging is also very prominent. RR's hiring philosophy is that 'a warm body is better than nobody', leading to incompetence at all levels. The company focuses on ‘good behavior’ to change culture, not realizing that skills and competency are fundamentally missing. RR struggles to retain world-class talent. Salary and benefits are very sub-par but in line with the low qualifications of personnel in quality and purchasing. The work environment and offices are in bad shape. Management has a 'naked king' approach to leading, favoring only the people who butter up and fake a positive appearance, get facials and wear ties for routine meetings only to keep their mouth shut since they have no relevant knowledge, experience or analytical thinking capabilities. World Class = GE, Siemens and Alstom. Stay away from Mount Vernon! – less

Not a typical corporation to be working in the U.S. They are all about management and care less about their employees.

Good company, team enviroment
Senior Customer Order Administrator (Former Employee), Indianapolis, IN – January 19, 2013
Pros: good benefits, team enviroment
Cons: company politics
The typical day began with reviewing the customer requirements and converting the requriements to orders for production to build the engines in support of the manufacturers of the aircraft as well as sustainment support for the customers inclusive of the US Government meeting the contract guidlines along with import and export regulations.

I was able – more... to grow from administrative assistant to a major contributor in support of the customers both internal and external. I gained my SAP knowledge through Rolls-Royce that lead to my success with my current employer.

Management showed favoritism but made efforts to keep this at a minimum but the favoritism was always apparent. This was not true of all management but certainly those that played the political game.

The hardest part of the job was to insure one did not get caught up in the company politics.

The most enjoyable part of my experience with the company was the team effort and the able to deliver product to the customer in a timely manner as needed. – less

Very caring and understanding when dealing with employees
Assembler (Former Employee), Mount Vernon, OH – January 4, 2013
Pros: very supportive and understanding
There are no typical days at work many days may bring different challenges and duties depending on priorities. I was able to learn a lot of new jobs and my co-workers were very helpful and encouraging during my learning process which never ends. Management is easy to talk to and anxious to help resolve issues involving problems with inventory or work – more... assignments and anything that is concerning the employees' ability to provide the best performance possible. The hardest part of the job was adapting to an entirely different work atmosphere than I was accustomed as well as the work I was preforming. I also found this the most enjoyable in that I was always learning new things. I enjoyed the challenge. – less

Excellent pay and benfits.
Facilities Team Leader (Former Employee), Indianapolis, Indiana – July 8, 2012
Pros: excellent pay and benefits
Excellent employer with many opportunities. I wish I was still working there, I lost my job there in March of 2009 due to outsourcing. It was devistating to me and my family. I had worked for them for 31 years and had advanced from an hourly employee to a Supervisor of Facilities. I always had outstanding work performance ratings and was highly respected. – more... I loved working with the people there and helping my employees to over come any problems that came there way. I would welcome any opportunity to work for them again. – less
