The subsidiary of Genuine Parts is a leading distributor of office supplies and other business products, including furniture, computer accessories, office machines (such as printers and faxes), cleaning supplies, and break room necessities. It also offers products for health care – more... providers and classrooms. S.P. Richards has more than 40 distribution centers throughout the US and Canada, and delivers some 50,000 products -- including proprietary brands such as SPARCO, Elite Image, and Lorell -- to almost 4,000 resellers. The company generates about 15% of its parent's revenue. It was founded in 1848 by Samuel P. Richards.
S.P. Richards' North American customers have struggled through the economic downturn, putting pressure on the office products supplier. Yet the company's sales inched up slightly in 2010 after declining demand in recent years.
As S.P. Richards works to turn around sales, it has also been upgrading its distribution facilities. During 2010 the company installed pick-to-voice technology in all of its US distribution centers. It also added energy-efficient lighting and conveyors with inline scales and automated sorting capabilities at selected facilities. – less
