accomplished and professional, but lacking in opportunities
decline to state (Current Employee) –  San Francisco, CAAugust 9, 2016
Arguably one of the best companies of it's type in the US, and successful at maintaining and promoting the art form. But for what it does well on the artistic side, it lacks in the administrative side.

While management is generally competent, there is no real upward accountability. in addition there is a glass ceiling between mid level management and executive levels here, so don't expect to be promoted in any major way despite you being qualified. Also while the everyday worker will know the best way to improve what they do, their opinions are often overlooked in favor of outside opinions and talent.

Overall a good place for the experience, but no real long term prospects.
Pros
access to dress rehearsals, good vacation and sick leave.
Cons
no real advancement opportunity, low yearly increases in salary (well below cost of living)

DBA/ Software Development/ SQL / Network Engineer (Former Employee) –  San Francisco, CAAugust 19, 2014
I loved many aspects of this place. The artists are a treasure. The managers are up and down. Some are great and some are not. The workers are really top notch. Some times the management can be weak and not allow for proper funding.
Pros
amazing atmosphere, amazing people
Cons
Low pay, management can be insconsistent

Insightful view of a Professional Ballerina's daily life
Pre-Professional Dancer (Former Employee) –  San Francisco, CAMay 17, 2014
Working as an understudy at San Francisco Ballet was a thrilling experience. Hours were somewhat difficult to accommodate however, and a work permit was required for those under 18 years of age.
