Working at SAS

Hey guys. So I recently got my Master's in Applied Statistics and haven't had any luck finding a job. I'm thinking of becoming a SAS programmer, but I'm not sure where to start. I have some basic background in SAS. Took a couple of SAS and SAS-related classes during college and got my SAS Base Certificate. I'm planning to get the Advanced SAS done as well. I don't know how much SAS I need to know to get a job as a SAS programmer. When I do a job search, I usually get results for positions as a Sr. SAS Programmer. Is there a more fundamental place to start? Everyone is welcome to comment! I want to hear what you guys have to say! :)

I have a question about SAS work. I've been a systems programmer for over 20 years and a tech writer for 8 years, and now I am thinking about getting a SAS certification. Is there any point in that? I get the impression looking at job forums the SAS programmers tend to be business analysts, so I suspect that SAS is just a tool that business professionals and academics use, but there may not be much of a job market for people who have a SAS certification and no business depth. I DO NOT WANT TO INVEST A LOT OF TIME GETTING A SAS CERTIFICAITON IF I LACK VITAL SKILLS IN OTHER AREAS NECESSARY TO GET SAS PROGRAMMING EMPLOYMENT. Could someone inform me about the SAS programming market? This is a summary of my knowledge level: * Masters in Computer Science and Bachelors in Physics * A modest grasp of statistics (I studied for the 1st SOA actuarial exam) * A modest grasp of statistical inference (I have been reading some of the UCLA SAS tutorials and I am not intimidated by a covariance matrix) * No preparation whatsoever in Financial Modeling. If you need an MBA for this, I should stay away from it. * No background in financial engineering (other than reading My Life as a Quant, and Inside the Yield Curve) Is there any prospect that I might get a SAS job if I got a certification, or would I be wasting my time? SAS INT'l is a "job coaching" company... not the statistical analysis software publisher. I made the same mistake. They advertise as if they have a job, but in reality, they are looking for executive level people who are willing to {PAY to be "taught to find the job they really want".... quite expensive, very slick, but not completely above board, based on the way they recruit potential clients.

Hi People My client is looking for a senior SAS strategist to work in beautiful New Zealand for a twelve month contract. Their ideal candidate is someone with exceptionally strong SAS skills, an intimate familiarity with the specifics of SAS's business intelligence offering, a good understanding of the technological road map for future versions of SAS and good Java skills. Is anyone interested? Or does anyone know where I might find such a person?

hi all, I need to know if it is possible to create a data set from scratch (no matter how inefficient it is) to contain the days of a given month as date9. So, my data set would have one variable (myDate) and as many observations as days in the respective month. All that without using datalines, infile, cards, ... I tried to do this by looping into a macro and appending to a base data set - it's not working because I guess I still don't know exactly what I am doing there. Thanks, kowalsky
