Chair and Director of Nursing Programs
Sacred Heart University, in Fairfield, Connecticut, is the second-largest Catholic university in New England. Sacred Heart University is searching for an innovative, visionary leader to Chair a thriving and growing department of 23 faculty, 11 clinical coordinators and administrative staff persons, and nearly 1,000 enrolled students. The Sacred Heart Nursing Department has lead the way in creating multiple pathways in nursing education through its a diverse array of on-site, online, and accelerated programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degree levels. The next Chair will find new ways to sustain the growth of the Nursing programs while balancing the expansion of new initiatives.
The Nursing Department lives its comprehensive philosophy embracing spirituality, ethics, diversity, and community. Nursing’s online and on-site first professional, graduate, and doctoral degree programs focus on service learning and campus—community partnerships. The high quality, experienced Nursing faculty are recognized leaders in practice, service, scholarship, and professional leadership. Faculty are known for their innovative and creative approach to program development, curriculum, and teaching. The department has recently acquired a state-of-the-art simulation laboratory and is among the first to implement advanced technologies.
Nursing’s undergraduate degree programs include a first Professional Degree program and an RN to BSN; master’s degree programs include RN to MSN with four tracks (Family Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Leader, Nursing Education, and Patient Care Services Administration); and, a Doctor of Nursing Practice with two tracks, one in leadership/education and the other in clinical practice. Nursing programs enjoy a thriving on-site and online presence with over 600 of its student body enrolled online and active partnerships with 4 Connecticut hospitals for its on-site, accelerated undergraduate and graduate programs. The Department of Nursing is accredited by the CCNE.
The ideal candidate will have:
A graduate degree in nursing and an earned doctorate in nursing or related field; be an RN licensed to practice in CT or eligible for CT State Licensure; at least 3—5 years administrative experience as a Program Director or Chair; Previous higher education teaching experience; experience with and commitment to online and adult learning; ability to lead the Department with vision, enthusiasm in the spirit of collaboration and collegiality; commitment to nursing’s global health and service-learning initiatives, record of and commitment to interprofessional education; demonstrated record of scholarship, service, and professional involvement; and, demonstrated strong, effective leadership abilities.
