SAFE KIDS Coordinator for Gwinnett County, Atlanta, GA - November 2, 2017
SAFE Kids is a National injury prevention program for children 2 to 18 years of age. As a coordinator, I was in charge of providing health injury education within my county. There were different themes every month such as: poison prevention, safety when swimming, unintentional falls, car seat recalls and so forth. I collaborated with the school system, district health office, police department and community organizations to promote/educate injury prevention classes within my county. I held monthly meetings with various organizations to better implement and distribute educational materials. I attended the once a year SAFE Kids National Prevention Conference. I was able to meet other SAFE Kids coordinators within the U.S. and all share ideas and methods on how best to promote injury prevention. This was a very hands-on position and I enjoyed working with the community and making a difference in injury prevention.
