Working offshore for this company was a great experience that I would love to have the opportunity to do again in the future. They have their own facility for all training and a great staff teaching you.

I would never work for this company again. They don't hold their employee accountable for anything. The good employees go unrecognized. You have to be in the good ol boy club to make it anywhere.

Avoid at all costs
Guard (Current Employee), ArkansasAugust 2, 2014
No loyalty to employees, they hire friends as managers who have no experience instead of promoting from within, sometimes you can go for 4-6 weeks and only work a day, after the first year we were forced to take a $5 per hour pay cut, no reimbursement for gas even though you drive your own vehicle as much as 140 miles per day, 12 hours work plus 3 hours commuting equals a long day. Management is a joke!!!

Boring. Worst management I've ever had.
Gate Guard (Former Employee), Searcy, ARMay 8, 2014
Pros: free laptop while working for them
Cons: longs hours, no family time, horrible management
In this job all you do is sit in a metal box for 12+ hours. You might sign in 10 people all day. Supervisor is a joke. They expect you to drop everything and run when they call, no matter the time.

You will be last to know when they decide to lay you off. I found out from a water tech. Then told oh I forgot to send out the email.

Monthly reports are; tracking the STOP card trends and entering them into the Shell network, entering the numbers in the Proactive Efforts spreadsheet with daily drilling footage, diesel used for the rig and mud engineer and water delivered or taken from the rig. (Potable, Gray and Black) also entered into the Shell Live Link system.

No job security
Safety Specialist (Former Employee), Midland, TXFebruary 24, 2014
Pros: good pay, didn't have to relocate.
Cons: no job security if you aren't friend or family
Was hired right out of college as a safety specialist. Went through six weeks of training at the SMS facility. Training was really for the friends and family who were hired and had no knowledge of safety whatsoever. This was a safety job in the oilfield. SMS lost its major contract and almost 200 people were laid off. So if you are considering working there be advised that it might not last long.

Good company to work for.
Shell HSE Representative (Current Employee), Pecos, TXAugust 9, 2013
Pros: esop program
Cons: being away from your family two weeks at a time.
Most of SMS's work is 14 on and 14 off. SMS has contracts with different clients and SMS employees act as onsite HSSE Representatives for that company. Management is easy to work with and from my experience, almost all co-workers are great to work with. Hardest aspect of this job is being away from your family for two weeks at a time. On the other hand, the most enjoyable aspect of this job is spending two weeks straight with your family.
