About SAFY of America, Inc.
•1989 - SAFY developed a new corporate structure and SAFY of America was incorporated and began providing all administrative services to the state offices. SAFY of Ohio and SAFY of Indiana were created.
•1991 - SAFY received a $100,000 grant to develop a runaway project to serve the Ohio counties of Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Hancock, Putnam – more... and Van Wert. Safe Harbor, a runaway and homeless shelter opened in Lima, Ohio under the direction of SAFY the following year.
•1994 - A new name was introduced to celebrate ten years and keep up with the changes in treatment foster care. Specialized Alternatives for Youth became Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth, Inc.
•1995 - SAFY was accredited by the COA.
•1997 - SAFY foster parents, the Krauss's of Delta, Ohio, met with President Clinton in the oval office to be recognized for adopting their foster child.
•1998 - SAFY began adoption programs in Ohio, Indiana and South Carolina.
•2000 - Dru Whitaker was named Chief Executive Officer of SAFY. New members join the SAFY Board of Directors.
•2001 - 26 youth graduated from high school and each received $100 from SAFY. In Ohio, 54 adoptive placements were completed and 38 adoptions were finalized.
•2002 - The SAFY Board of Directors developed long-term strategic plan to guide the activities of the organization for the next three years.
•2003 - SAFY launches a fund development department. This department focuses on establishing long-term contributors to SAFY and on fund raising efforts in each state.
•2004 - SAFY creates a new business development department and unveils the Rays of Hope art exhibit, which depicts child abuse and neglect and the need for more foster parents throughout the United States.
•2005 - SAFY creates special program for the treatment of adolescent sexual offenders and updates in-home intervention and respite care services. – less – More from ZoomInfo »
