The San Jose/Good Samaritan Medical Group (SJGSMG) today announced that it has launched a financial planning effort designed to place SJGSMG on firm financial footing for the future. SJGSMG said that it has apprised its HMO and PPO insurance partners of its planning effort. According to SJGSMG, its insurance partners recognize the importance of the Group as a cornerstone of the delivery system for physician services within Santa Clara County, and are fully supportive of the Group's efforts to strengthen its financial position.
The San Jose/Good Samaritan Medical Group reported that like many medical providers in the region, it has been negatively impacted by a decrease in the number of HMO patients, as local companies have recently laid off workers who were eligible to receive care from SJGSMG through its contracting HMOs. The Group reported that it is exploring all avenues to increase revenue, control expenses and maximize operating efficiencies. The company anticipates announcing specific measures over the next three-to-four weeks.
