The Fund Development Manager works in conjunction with the Board of Directors and the Fundraising Committee to create, implement and manage financial development and marketing strategies with a goal of raising approximately $400,000 (for FY13-14) to support the activities and efforts of the San Mateo PAL. The Fund Development Manager’s responsibilities include:
Research funding opportunities and prepare and/or coordinate preparation of grants and reports to past and prospective foundation, corporate and public funders
Plan and coordinate events including but not limited to annual golf tournament and awards dinner
Coordinate efforts to solicit sponsorships from local businesses and organizations
Coordinate annual direct mail solicitations to past and prospective donors – individuals and organizations as
Ensure accurate and timely acknowledgement of gifts and grants, and effective information management in
Identify and manage communications, public relations and marketing efforts
Plan and coordinate major gifts initiative
Personally solicit gifts and sponsorships as well as in-kind support appropriate
Plan and coordinate cultivation and stewardship activities to retain and increase donors and support
Recruit and manage volunteers
Prepare and submit reports as requested
Other duties as assigned
This is a part time position of approximately 20 hours/week, subject to further review upon development of the fund development plan and goals. Actual hours may fluctuate based upon levels of activity and program demands.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
A minimum of 2 years demonstrated direct experience in successfully raising funds from diverse sources.
Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrate an ability to work well with diverse individuals including board
members, donors, volunteers, clients and staff.
Excellent oral presentation, writing and editing skills, including the ability to write quickly and concisely,
effectively communicate the San Mateo PAL messages and make San Mateo PAL relevant to a broad
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage projects, often with competing deadlines.
Self-starter and initiator, capable of working independently as well as part of a staff and board team.
Strong computer and data management skills and solid proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel,
Power Point, Publisher, etc). Previous experience with Giftworks or similar donor database and/or Constant
