Very productive and team oriented team of group teachers.
Long Term Substitute Teacher (Current Employee), Philadelphia, PA – May 5, 2013
Pros: working hours, holidays off, summers off
Cons: having to start other assignments once teacher returns.
My fellow colleagues are extremely AMAZING! As a Long Term Sub you're constantly having to take over other teachers classes for an extended period of time. And most people do not understand just how arduous that is; and it's even harder if you don't have the proper support from your fellow grade group teachers. However, that wasn't the case for me! – more... Granted, there were times the class gave me a hard time, but having a strong support system from the two other 6th grade teachers made most situations bare-able. The most difficult part about being a Long Term Sub is having to constantly be ready to start over at any day. After a while you begin to build bonds with the kids inside the classroom. You begin to build relationships and truly want to see these kids prosper and grow and if a teacher decides to come back to their classroom, in some cases it can be devastating to both the long term sub and the student. – less

I enjoyed working at all of my previous place of employment. I appreciate every opportunity each position provided and the autonomy that was given.
School Improvement Student Advisor (Former Employee), Philadelphia, PA – April 11, 2013
Pros: the ability to meet a diverse group of people
I learned alot, how to treat and respect customers, how to go above and beyond for those who I am serving and how to build rapport and long term relationships with all stakeholders.

The hardest part of my job was not being able to help everyone. I like when customers leave feeling happy and satisfied.

The most enjoyable part of my job was helping – more... others. There is nothing like the feeling of competence, knowing that you did make someone happy or content. – less

It was a fast paced, yet enjoyable job. This job had great benefits. I learned communication skills. Outstanding staff and management. The hardest part about the job was maintaining the daily routine. The most enjoyable of this job was the overall business.

Bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist (Current Employee), Philadelphia, PA – April 3, 2013
Pros: work with wonderful staff, diversity of communication needs on caseload
Cons: workload has increased to the point where providing services to students is no longer the priority, paperwork is.
The SDP has lost sight of the children, especially those with the greatest needs. Too many cuts to valuable programs. Teachers and SLPs are not respected by upper level administration;

A great place of employment for those that love children and want to service them.
Parent Ombudsman (Parent Liaison) (Former Employee), Philadelphia, PA – April 2, 2013
Pros: my own office, a partner to help with the load of cases
Cons: no breaks
As a School District of Philadelphia Employee, I loved working with the parents and the students. My day always started with greeting the parents and students with Good Morning.I learned case management as well as time management and displaying patience with situations that have become irate. Some of the co workers had thier picks but over all I remained – more... professional in my approach and interactions with them. The hardest part of my job was seeing my parents struggle without a stron support system, it gave me a great sense of satisfaction to be able to help them. The School District of Philadelphia is a great place to work if you love children. – less

Secretary Position
Secretary (Former Employee), Philadelphia, PA – January 28, 2013
The job can be very challenging at times you have to be able to multitask. Be prepared to be cursed out by parents upset about their child being bullied, grades, or problems with teachers at least several times a week.

Pros: no pressure but responsible for deadlines
Cons: getting everyone to work on the same page for the improvement of education, parental engagement, and improve attendance and test scores of the students
It was a challenging position, with several key duties. A traditional work place where the people are required to do their work without immediate supervision. Each person was rated on their own merits.

Pros: great workplace
Cons: not as many hours as i need
A typical day at work for me visiting my patients, seeing if they need me to do anything for them. cook, clean, administer medications, mainly.
