Guidance Counselor (Current Employee), Philadelphia, PA – May 14, 2012
Pros: good benefits, challenging
Cons: difficult administration, conditions, many crisis to manage, big workload.
Typically, I see many children during the day who are experiencing some type of behavior problem. I counsel them briefly and have several more on a behavior plan. I see these children daily to reward or discuss behavior progress that day. I do not manage anyone else on this job. My coworkers are the best part of my job. Most of us support each other – more... and try to do what we can to make the other's job a little easier. The hardest part of the job is not feeling like you are important to the administration and feeling that they don't understand what your job is like. Most enjoyable part is when kids who have difficult behavior really seem like they are trying. The bonds that I have with some of these kids is rewarding and love when I get the hugs in the morning. – less

Dealing with the police the city government parents to start a safe corridor district where our children could walk to and from school safely. Talking to churches in the community on how they could help the schools to achieve there goals.Went to every fast food place in the neighbor and got them to donate coupons so we could use the as prizes for good behavior went to the super market and the donated the food for all of the work shops plus about ten free turkeys for our thanksgiving food boxes to our more needy families in our school. Legal Assistant (Current Employee), Philadelphia, PA – May 8, 2012
Pros: health insurance benefits; pension plan
Cons: massive debt forcing workforce reduction
The School District of Philadelphia could be a nice place to work and move around once you finish obtaining a degree. The problem is that it is facing such massive debt that you have to wonder if you will be laid off or what kind of environment you will be working in.
I enjoy cooking, conversating with the students, and having fun while I'm doing my job.
Food Service Worker/Cook Manager (Current Employee), Philadelphia, PA – May 5, 2012

Cons: take short breaks
I enjoy cooking, inputting data into the computer, ordering food and supplies, serving meals to the students and staff. I manage a small crew and we work together as a team. The hardest part for me is putting the food and supplies away while still preparing for breakfast and or lunch as well as doing the inventory. The most enjoyable part of the day – more... for me is when all of the students say thank you, for the meals, and that their needs were met. – less

Classroom Teacher (Former Employee), Philadelphia, PA – March 27, 2012
School district of Philadelphia has a lot of challenges and demands on the teachers and not on the students. To me it takes two to tango. The best teacher can only motivate and guide but cannot force a student to learn. Philadelphia should understudy countries like south Korea, India and Nigeria in order to fix the school system .
Educational Provider for students in the Philadelphia area offering a variety of positions in the education field

The School District of Philadelphia hires and employs individuals who are trained to offer supports to students as teachers and administrators. They are currently revising their organizational structure to include public and charter schools.
Social Service liaison (Former Employee), Philadelphia, PA – February 28, 2012
The school district has great hours when you are working in the schools because you get off work shortly after school is dismissed. There are occasional nights you have to stay bt it is ideal for a person with children.
