Dysfunctional environment with zero advancement
Correction Officer (Former Employee) –  scott County, MNSeptember 24, 2015
The administration is clueless and make this already stressful job very difficult. The staff are over worked and given too many tasks to effectively do their jobs. They are expected to deliver medication to inmates and triage medical situations. The current Jail Administrator makes the employees switch shifts every two years. There is little to zero advancement opportunities and the turn over is high. They are pay for performance based so a raise is nearly impossible. Overtime is abundant and many are forced to work and told to adjust their personal schedules. Time off is being denied due to a staff shortage and the Sheriff is blind to the stress and moral deficit by current employees.
Pros
Pay is good for new hires
Cons
hours, supervisors, health insurance premiums, lack of advancement, two year max on desired shift, zero life work balance

Assistant (Former Employee) –  Gate City, VAJanuary 6, 2015
The commissioner at the time was a great person to intern for. He made the job as painless and easy as possible while helping me every step I needed. I learned a lot and became very efficient. The other staff were great and nothing but awesome co-workers for the short internship.
