About Scottsdale Healthcare

Scottsdale Healthcare Corp., a not-for-profit organization, serves the health care needs of central Arizona residents. Its operations include three acute care hospitals that combined boast some 835 beds. Scottsdale Healthcare also operates other campuses that offer physician offices, a cancer center, home health, and other health care services. It conducts – more... clinical research through the Scottsdale Healthcare Research Institute. The group's Essential Touch Wellness Center and Boutique provides spa-like stress-reduction therapies. With a staff of some 1,400 physicians, the company offers more than 50 medical specialties. Scottsdale Healthcare was established in 1962 as City Hospital of Scottsdale.

Geographic Reach

Scottsdale Healthcare serves central Arizona, specifically in an around the entire Northeast Valley, as well as the area north of Loop 101.

Strategy

Since 2012 the health care network has been expanding into Northeast Phoenix to deepen its relationships with community physicians and diversify beyond its three-hospital Scottsdale campuses. To this end, it plans to open new Scottsdale Healthcare Primary Care physician offices in 2013 -- one each in Phoenix and Tempe -- to join existing locations in Arcadia, Scottsdale, and Grayhawk.

What makes Scottsdale Healthcare stand out is its military training program, the only one of its kind in the country. Its Readiness Skill Sustainment Training Program gives National Guard, Air Force Reserve, and nearby Air Force base personnel 12 days of training in treating trauma, burns, and other wounds they might encounter when deployed in a war zone. Participants also work in intensive care, ride along with EMS personnel, and get orthopedics and operating room practice. It has since expanded the program to include a $1.6-million military trauma training center, which serves military medical personnel with classroom and simulation training and trains civilian paramedics and firefighters.

The organization performs clinical research through the Scottsdale Healthcare Research Institute. Through the institute, the organization conducts clinical trials in a range of disciplines including cancer and other complex diseases.   – less
