Senior Social Worker, Seattle, WA - September 7, 2017
Seattle Children's is the premier tertiary care hospital for children and youth in the Washington, Montana, Idaho, and Alaska region. It is leading cutting-edge efforts to advance specialized care to children, and provide research. The social work department contributes significantly to the well being of families during their time at the hospital. They provide crisis management, bereavement, adjustment to illness, and connection to resources. They are culturally sensitive and strong advocates for patients. However, the hospital has capitalized on this passion by requiring total commitment to the work. Parking requires a shuttle ride in to the hospital, so parents of children who need mid-day appointments are at a serious disadvantage. Working after hours, including at night, may be required. Overall, the management is very data-driven, monitoring all of the activities of staff. The environment is not very democratic as decisions are made from the top down..
