About Sharp Memorial Hospital
The docs and the scalpels are sharp at Sharp Memorial Hospital. The flagship facility of Sharp HealthCare, the not-for-profit hospital has roughly 370 beds and is a designated trauma center for San Diego County. Specialties include cardiac care, women's health, multi-organ transplantation, and cancer treatment. It also provides skilled nursing, home – more... health, and hospice services. Sharp Memorial Hospital first opened in 1955. Sharp HealthCare completed reconstruction efforts on the Sharp Memorial facility in 2009; the new hospital has improved inpatient, surgery, emergency, trauma, and intensive care facilities.
Sharp Memorial is one of roughly two dozen Magnet hospitals in California. The hospital received the designation for excellence in nursing practices and patient care.
Along with a full range of inpatient services, Sharp Memorial Outpatient Pavilion provides patients with outpatient cancer treatment, women's imaging services, endoscopy services, and a community health library. Sharp Memorial Outpatient Pavilion also provides outpatient surgery that is designed to accommodate a variety of procedures from LASIK to orthopedic surgeries. More and more hospitals are adding outpatient services to their roster because they tend to bring in a lot of revenue for the hospital.
The Cushman Wellness Center Community Health Library allows patients to look up information with the help of professional health librarians, who help patients and their families understand upcoming procedures and ailments. The library also offers anatomical models of the human torso, heart, eye, and torso, as well as the opportunity to check out CDs and clinical books.
