Scientist (Former Employee), knoxville tn – May 14, 2012
Pros: met some nice folks-learning experience
Cons: disrespectful site managers(some locations), good ole boy network, few raises and promotions, a lot of travel, expensive insurance.
Worked at Shaw for 5yrs and only received 2 (tiny) raises in the time frame. Raises were not given due to the economy for multiple years. Received promotion in the 5yrs but without a pay increase! Spent most of the time traveling for weeks on end. Unless you are from the era of the IT folks (IT was the company before Shaw bought them out) you will not – more... be fairly compensated. Be sure to ask for enough money up front if you get the position because you will never get a good raise unless you get in with the good ole boy network..... If you are a female best of luck for getting what you should be paid and promotions. Great learning experience if this is your first job but if not- go elsewhere! Better pay is elsewhere along with better management. The fieldwork is often long hours, away from home with some overbearing site managers that do not show respect. – less

Journeyman Electrician (Former Employee), last was in coloumbus ne. – May 12, 2012
Pros: usually fairly good pay, pretty good hours
Cons: hard to get on a job, not on a job long enough to get insurance, and be able to use
most of the people i worked with were ok. never got to find out about the insurance, they always seemed to lay-off just before your 90 days kick in.pay was great on the 3 jobs i was on.getting on a new job site is horrible unless you know someone.if you go to their website and apply you will never get hired. i have applied for i do not know how many – more... jobs on line and never get a call from them.so unless you can get the ph#s for all jobsite hr recriuters and call them good luck hiring on .advancement not likley – less
Challenging, rewarding and enjoyable fast paced atmosphere
HR Generalist (Current Employee), Virginia City, VA – May 9, 2012
Shaw Group is a major construction company that has a very diverse group of employees. It is a fast paced atmosphere and offers many challenges and opportunities to learn new things. The overall atmosphere is very informal but still professional.

my morning started off good and the day went by fast because we were always busy and i learned how process docs and build project books . had a great manager and my coworkers were great.
Admin. Assistant (Current Employee), Lake Charles, LA – March 26, 2012
Pros: not a thing.
Cons: too many to say.
Ridiculous hours, dark parking lot at night, port-a-potties in use because the general manager had someone who was doing vandalism in the bathrooms and instead of narrowing down the search and finding out who did it port-a-potties were brought in and they said they would lock the bathroom doors so you had to use them, blamed an electrical fire on a – more... smoker to be able to further enforce the no tobacco policy, no communication at this company, too many chiefs and no indians....
This only applies to Shaw Modular in Lake Charles.... – less
